Socceroos and Australian Football

BARNES OUT
There's no doubt Oman should have won, but on paper we're a much better side. Arnold coaching reminds me so much of Farina it's sickening. Kewell shouldn't be playing as right striker for God's sake, you'd have thought he'd have learned that by the way Hiddink had him on his natural left wing.

Only saw bits and parts of this match at work, but all i saw was Australia trying long balls. Really they got to go back to the days of touch football and passing the ball along the ground. You got to play to your strength and long balls have never been our strength, especially when you side is stacked with central midfielders. Lucky for Australia the other match in the group was also a draw. We can start from ball one again.

Oman pretty good so im not surprised they push us all the way. You can't go into these games expecting to win 4 nil or something by just turning up. You only do that when you play top football against these sides.

Good lesson to learn, i reckon we needed this type of match early to wake us up.

I was talking to a mate at work today and both of us thought Oman was on par with the Kiwis. Some of the Kiwi swho play in European indiviually are better, but as a team we both thought they are on par. Anyone else agree with this?

This is why i love International Football, greatest game ever anyone can beat anyone really. Japan just drew with Qatar 1-1. Thats four upsets in four matches, so gun. First Thailand drew with Iraq, then Australia with Oman, then Vietnam beat UAE. There was talk before the Asian Cup, that the days of the 'superpowers' having their own way in Asian Football was over and the first three days are showing that this might just be the case.

Its nice to see teams like Vietnam and Thailand stepping as it will mean the first round of qualifiers for youth championships are going to be a lot tougher then what we might have thought. Also might make the Tiger Cup, a real show piece event for us every 2 years.

Was great fun watching the game the other night, even though it wasn't a particularly brilliant contest. Oman were pretty decent really, and Australia were shocking. 1-1 is definitely a flattering result.

Tony Popovic signed for Sydney FC, you got to love those player-coach type signing. I think it means Carney pretty much a certainity to leave the club. Looks like talks with Robbie Flower and John Aloisi have slowed down. We really need a new striker next season, regardless of whether its a marquee player or just a top line forward. We lacked goals in important matches last season and in the champsionship league. Also looks like Milligan could be one his way out as well, but like Carney probably needs a run the Asia Cup for potential clubs to see what he has to offer.
