I left Lara out of this, as I feel there is a certain position for him in the middle order, maybe at no. 4. I might do likewise for Dean Jones, if you guys say so.

As it is, I reckon this is a too horse race.

He spent most of his career there TBH.
While his ODI average is slighly higher at first drop,he had 30 more innings at second drop.So you are spot on Perm.That is why I went for Dean Jones....with Richards as the logical #4

Viv Richards, hard to argue that he isn't the greatest ODI batsman of all time.
I'd argue that no-one can be called that, personally, I'd argue that Richards played a different game to that which has been played since the 1990s.

And I'd also argue that once you go past openers, polls are pointless, because you can pick a massive number of players in a wide variety of positions.
