Australia name 30-man WC squad

Speersy

U19 Cricketer
The only players you could really see being rested would be Gilchrist and maybe Hayden but I expect both would enjoy the novelty of playing in a 20/20 WC before they finish up.
Dude they have had enought time off, they live for cricket. If Hayden and Gilchrist do not play, they will lose alot of money in ratings.

I'd expect Aus to send a pretty close to full strength squad, because there's no cricket between now and then for them (AFAIK).

International Vice-Captain
The same Brad Hodge that is the only player to average over 50 in 2020s and is the second leading run scorer of all time?

PhoenixFire

International Coach
Yes.

Tbf, it's a fair stretch more unbelieveable having Hayden in an All Time XI, over people like Gilchrist, Jayasuriya, Haynes and Waugh imo.

Who the **** are George Bailey, Luke Butterworth and Brendan Drew?
George Bailey was the Scottish Saltires overseas player earlier this season. He also plays club cricket in Scotland for Grange who play in Edinburgh. He hit 129* against our club's 1stX1 a few weeks ago.

BARNES OUT
George Bailey's one of the best young batsmen in the country, plays for Tassy.

Butterworth is an all-rounder, IIRC he was the match winner for Tassy in the FC final last year.

Got nfi who Drew is.

Drew, Bailey and Butterworth are all young Tassie players. I still think Ben Hilfenhaus and Travis Birt will be the best new players to come out of Tasmania though.

Birt is dire IMO. He could make a semi-decent ODI player I suppose, but his technique would be murdered at test level.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about one dayers, or more importantly Twenty20 cricket. I've been checking out Birts progress in County Cricket, not having too much success at all.

Hilf is a champion and will spearhead the Australia attack for years to come in all important cricket..

The squad is exactly the WC-winning one, with Lee for McGrath:

Matthew Hayden
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Ricky Ponting (capt)
Michael Clarke
Brad Hodge
Andrew Symonds
Michael Hussey
Shane Watson
Brad Haddin (wk)
Brad Hogg
Brett Lee
Mitchell Johnson
Nathan Bracken
Stuart Clark
Shaun Tait.

I am most surprised about is that they have Haddin, I thought he would be replaced with another player.

Surprised Voges is the captain ahead of White in the Australia 'A' side to tour Pakistan. Selectors obviously rate Voges for some reason.

Australia A squad Phil Jaques, Chris Rogers, David Hussey, Adam Voges (capt), Cameron White, Luke Ronchi (wk), James Hopes, Andrew McDonald, Ashley Noffke, Cullen Bailey, Dan Cullen, Ben Hilfenhaus, Doug Bollinger, Stuart MacGill.
