Good win for India, they have won an ODI series against World Cup semi finalists and should be proud. Well played Yuvraj and the finisher Dhoni lives up to the title.

Huge credit to Pollock and Smith for playing a crucial hand in India's first series win outside the sub-continent since 2002's Netwest series.

yah credit to Smith, Pollock, Prince for not playing this game else India would have certainly been white washed and that too by huge margins. Knowing this fact, India should actually relinquish the cup cuz they certainly don't deserve it. yeah...

some fans .. the ever pessimists...8-)

Big win for India. Pretty average batting display from South Africa, Kemp and Gibbs aside, but a very good innings from Yuvraj under pressure.

SA being under strength is ridiculously overdone as an argument.

Smith's direct replacement (van Wyk) averaged 12 more in this relatively low scoring series than Smith averages against India. Smith did SA a favor by staying away, going by the numbers. (in the last series in SA, he was even worse, being Zaheer's bunny in all but one innings - at 1,0,0,79)

Prince is hardly a first choice starter - he has played only 52 ODIs total (he's 30) and averages 21 this year and less than 30 against India overall.

So SA were really missing only Pollock, who is very very good - but OTOH (a) SA has a long line of right arm medium fast seamers behind him, (b) they're the #2 team in ODIs, while India is #6 (with, apparently, a politically charged selection process that keeps useless folks like Tendulkar) and (c) these were not subcontinental pitches (d) India, too, suffered from a bad bout of flu that had them understrength in their weakest area, ie the pacers. (d) Closest thing India has to Pollock would be Munaf. To be balanced, he was left at home too.

India beat SA fair and square for my money. Away from home.

Since that poor series against Sri Lanka (November 2005) when he was on the verge of being dropped from the side, Yuvraj has simply been brilliant for India. Excluding minnows, he has averaged 57 since then. Take out the successive ducks in KL when he clearly had not recovered from illness and that average shoots up to 62. On the bowling front, he has averaged 34 going at 4.58 runs per over. Excellent stuff IMO.

On that note, a few questions ...

Yuvraj Singh - currently, India's most valuable one-day cricketer?
Yuvraj Singh - currently, India's best one-day batsman?

In my opinion, yes. In recent times, Yuvraj has been more consistent than Tendulkar and better under pressure than Dravid. Today in the morning, my dad (who is not a cricket fan at all) got engrossed during the final overs of the match and told me how impressed he was by Yuvraj. "Yuvraj is a real fighter, great composure".

Wonder why he does not get to bowl more often. At ~ 30-31 avg, ER of 4.5 and a strike rate of just about 40+ (last 2 year stats) - make him a reasonable comparison with some of India's "frontline" bowlers (I believe Harbhajan would come off worse in this comparison in the last year).

What did you think of India and South Africa's performances in the second odi? What did you think about performances of various players from both sides (few notably good, poor performances)?

Whatever it takes!!!
Excellent win for India. As jeevan pointed out, the RSA being under strength is a ridiculous argument. I felt that RSA would beat India very easily in these conditions before the series started and I think India have played some really good cricket to come up trumps in these conditions. Guys like Chawla were even struggling to grip the ball and they still did reasonably well.

Yuvraj done better than expected as a bowler and that is a big bonus for India. But I still think it is ridiculous that he is being considered a better bet than Sachin in crunch situations. Personally, I will always go for Sachin simply because he has so much variety.

The batting order seems to be shaping up well now. If only Sourav can get the knowledge of how to score reasonably quickly back....... But can't fault what he did in these conditions too much. One needed to play safe cricket in the initial overs in such pitches and he did try to get partnerships going. Sachin looked a lot more like SAchin in this series than any in the past couple of years. Hopefully, he can keep it going like this. Also wonderful to see how relaxed he and the rest of the team seem to be now. So hopefully the tensions of the Chappell era are gone. Would have liked to see Gambhir get a big one in one of these games but I would still give him a couple of more games because I think he has potential to be a regular in our ODI side. Dravid at 4 acts as the link between the top order and the middle order. And our middle order seems pretty good with Yuvraj, Dhoni and Karthik there. All of them are showing good temperament to bat in such situations. And Yuvraj seems to be finally getting back some form after almost a year (even though he didn't play much in the intervening period after his injury before the CT)... All in all, an excellent result for India. And what a wonderful gesture it was by Sachin. He was adjudicated as the MoS and yet he called out Yuvraj and said he wanted to share it with him since Yuvraj has done just as well in this series. Amazing spirit from the Champion. :)

RSA should start catching better, esp. Kallis who seems to drop a lot for a second slipper. But I think once Pollock is back, their bowling will look in much better shape. Unfortunately, I don't think Tshabalala is their answer for a spinner and so they still have to find a decent one of that species if they are to become a championship contender side in both forms of the game.... Also felt Kallis tended to let the games drift at various stages. Didn't seem as proactive as Graeme Smith, IMHO.

The performance from the players is very good, Its a great time to watch that match. I had time to watch that match. A close match.

Well, The man of the match played well in that match. Thats why he was awarded MoM. Of course, He is nt successful in the final (3rd ODI) decider(as always. Thats not a new thing).

Good performances in the match: Van Wyk(upcoming player) , Duminy, Boucher,

Poor performances: Dhoni, Devilliers, Kallis.

Anything more...This is what I can write.. I am not a match reporter :))
