Yay that is him, it was his captain JWHT Douglas that told him this on the way to Aust for the 1920/21 tour in which England lost 5-0. Fender actually did pretty well in a well beaten side.

Gooch was definitely one - in the 1st test against Aus in 1993.Between the years 1978 to 1993 there were 3 batsmen given out "Handled The Ball"in Test Matches.......
Who were they? (Bonus if you can tell the teams involved etc]
Didn't Andrew Hilditch go that way after picking the ball up to throw it back to Sarfraz, who sportingly appealed for handling the ball, and the umpire had to give him out?

Gooch was definitely 1993, although I'm guessing that was a typo on your part. Hilditch, I should have said, was actually the non-striker at the time, hence the fuss.
