Can't see them getting their hands on the ball to be able to retain it myself
They'll soon learn to hold onto it, we will score a try almost every time they turn it over and we decide to counter attack.

Whoops, intercept try. They may be able to spoil us a bit but I think the floodgates will open in the 2nd half. These guys are amateurs and fitness will tell soon.

Wouldn't be surprised if we lose next weekend. South Africa are gonna kill us at the lineouts & Carter isn't really in form & we all know how SA like to pick on him.

What the hell are Drew Mitchell and Julian Huxley doing playing for Australia? I'm surprised South Africa didn't kill them TBH.

How did the saffies go today? My Sky has died so I missed the game. I was a little surprised Oz ran them so close, but the report I read said it was a herculean defensive effort from the crims to keep them out.

Two late dropped goals from Francois Steyn got them over the line in a 22-19 victory.

:p

Yeah, I knew the score, I really meant "How did the saffies go today?" in the "were they impressive or not?" sense. I mean they looked decent enough against our "C" team, but I don't think you can read too much into that.

Safrican forwards as usual played with their usual good cohesion despite losing Smit at the 10 minute mark. However, they were entirely one dimensional in attack, relying on pick and driving to get themselves over the line, however the Aussies defended quite well. Australia's backs were better.

@Perm - I hate that Huxley is in the team, but until Latham or Cameron Shepard is fit, there isn't really anyone else. Drew Mitchell is alright.

Huxley had a pretty good Super 14 so I can understand why he is playing, a reward after a good season. That doesn't change the fact that he is an average footballer. Cameron Shephard was playing for Australia A against the Junior All Blacks I think, he should be in the Wallabies over Huxley. Drew Mitchell is average, he had one good season with Queensland and a couple of good Test matches for Australia but has doing nothing of note since then, Mark Gerrard is much better option and I am stunned to see him not playing, presumably he must be carrying an injury.

Australian selectors are also a little bit obsessed with "speed" at the moment, which is why I believe they want Mitchell over Gerrard, who despite being a very solid, skilled footballer, is a touch slow on the wing.

Bah, that's a stupid selection. Australia need Mark Gerrard more than they need Drew Mitchell, if Gerrard is used properly then he wouldn't be standing out on the wing waiting to try and outsprint his opponents. They need to use Gerrard in a role that allows him to manipulate oppositions defences, which is pefectly suited to the style of game that Larkham and Giteau play.

Just looking what was happening to Matt Rogers, thought he must have been injured which was why he was out of the team, and found out he had returned to Rugby League (don't get NRL anymore so hadn't seen him). Very suprising in world cup year it would have made sense for him to leave after the World Cup like many of the All Blacks have. I was wondering what caused the switch had he lost his place in the side or had a falling out the ARU? I personally think he would walk into the current Aussie side at full back or even inside centre ahead of Giteau.

Well, the first round is over and done with, lucky win to the boks.

My pick is that the all blacks will be to good for the springboks next weekend, the ABs lacked a little cohesion against canada, but i'm sure that they'll work on that during the week and will take to the boks in south africa..

Carn the blacks!!
