***Official** West Indies in England***

All other countries call their 2nd team the A team eg Pakistan A team, Australia A team, why on earth are we calling ours England Lions. It sounds more like a rugby team.
The name suggests they might actually show some fight, but we'll see ;)

Really frustrates me, that sort of thing - they've got a massive archive of fascinating footage - why not show some stuff from West Indies in 1990? Or South Africa in 1995\96? Or even, as it'd make particularly interesting viewing in hindsight, the subcontinent in 1992\93.

Or heck, even some stuff like South Africa in 2004\05 or Sri Lanka in 2000\01. But something a few weeks ago? What's the point? Who the blazes wants to watch that? I'd happily watch anything from a couple of years ago and further back.

Better still, of course, they'd show some stuff from the early or mid 1970s - but that might require some more contractual wrangling than is doable.

Well they did have Bridgetown 1994 (Stewy's twin tons, Gus Fraser's 8-for) on earlier in the day.

You don't have to agree with them, as long as you reconigse that these matches are Test match cricket, regardless of the strength of the opposition. You can still exclude these games when looking at stats because they quite often twist the numbers, but they are still Test matches.
If I were to be in complete charge of the classification of matches, those games would be stripped of Test status. That's all I'm getting at. I recognise, obviously, that I$C$C clas**** them as such but I don't have to accept it.

That's the thing though, I do beleive you have to accept that these games are Test matches, even though we both know that Zimbabwe vs Australis shouldn't be considered one.

Personally I hate nicknames and you'll see me supporting Celtic before you see me calling them England Lions - they are England A. Mind you its just as well Surrey changed their nickname isn't it....

On that subject, has anyone seen the book on the '76 series yet? i reckon its a good idea to have one but what is it like?

You mean this one?

As we said on the Books thread, it looks like it might be a good read - a bit pricey in hardback though. This is his first cricket book I think; he seems to write more about Arsenal FC.

As I understand it, it's not raining at the moment, but they can't play because of a wet outfield. Isn't it time all our Test grounds had covering for the whole playing area, as they have at Edgbaston? Sure, it would be expensive - but how much did yesterday's washout cost?

Awww, whaaaaaaaaaat? I'd have been more keen on seeing that than a day's live play. Confound work. :@
I hope you're watching now, though - Port-of-Spain '98 (3rd Test).

They seem to prefer showing England wins, but I don't suppose they're going to show any BBC/Channel 4 matches - so it's unlikely we'll get Lord's 2000. But we've seen that many times.

Were Sky covering the 1990 series? Nobody I knew had satellite back then.

Or go one better and build a roof. Alas you would need Roman Abramovich's bank account to do that.

Yes they did (I didn't have satellite then but it was mentioned somewhere that that was the first England tour you could see BBB coverage). Thye could show Lord's 2000 - I remember they showed Headingley 2000 during this year's Headingley Test's rain delays - but with Sky's commentators not C4s (Sky did Test highlights at that time)

So, the other way round really. Samuels for Sammy; Powell for Taylor.

England will be looking forward to bowling at Ganga - he's as much a walking wicket as Strauss at the moment.
