Is Graeme Hick's career a sucess or a failure?

Before you immediately assume failure (because of his mediocore test record) think about it.

The guy has scored 134 first class centuries, on the brink of 40'000 runs and still playing great at 41 years old. Would it be unfair to call someone who has acheived this a failure?

And how do people think he would have done say if he was brought into the England set up now as a young 25 year old now, was his failure down to his inablility to handle pressure or bad management of the day. As I think it would be true to to say England debuants perform much better today then say 10 years ago.
successful at first class level, decent at one day international level, huge failure at test level...

How much emphasis does one put on test cricket is the obvious key.

I mean for example, if both Graeme Hick and Virender Sehwag's careers ended now, whose would go down as superior?

Indeed it would, Geoff.

Fiery being a real-life nickname, I feel quite comfortable calling you it, TBH. It's just when you start getting onto random letters (like p followed by a followed by s followed by a followed by g) that I start feeling silly calling someone by a posting-ID.

For most people, probably Sehwag. Me, though, I think it'd be crazy to claim Hick wasn't the better, though.

pasag is easy enough to say I reckon...has a ring to it. Going over covered ground here but I feel uncomfortable calling people by their real names, particularly when I have never physically met them...not to mention the fact that it's confusing to all those outside the "circle of real-namers"

I know it's easy enough to say but, well, as I say - the only reason it exists is because those happen to be the letters he pressed. It could just as easily have been szjok. And as such I feel pretty foolish calling him a random set of letters as an address or an identification. As I once said to him - I'd be happy to see his posting-ID changed to Zac G or summat. He doesn't like name-chagning, though.

I find that a bit difficult to understand tbh. I'm sure when he created the Username pasag he did so because he preferred not to use his real-name. Also sure that he's quite comfortable with people calling him pasag as he is with Zac or Gelman tbh. You seem to think that because you have used your real name everybody else should be obliged to be referred to by their real-names

I assure you, he created the username by pressing random keys - he only created an account because he wanted to use the Search function, he had no intention of posting. Incredible to think now, given that he's become one of the best things ever to happen to this site.

I'd imagine he is happy being spoken of and addressed as "pasag" otherwise he probably would have asked to change. But I feel silly calling him that, and I always smile outwardly when I read others calling him it too, even Fusion, who's a champion bloke in every way.

Big hugs and kisses for pasag and Fusion then?...(I'm OK thanks )

Personally I would go for Hick, even though Sehwag has had more success at Test level. Given how much of a flat track bully he is, it probably doesn't count for too much.

The name 'pasag' has grown on me tbh, I rather like it now. And Australia is big on surnames as well, well from what I know anyways, so I prefer being called by the surname over the first name, tbh unless it's in an offical sense of course. And lol at being brought up in a thread about Graeme Hick, of all things.

If Hick can be considered a success than guys like Asif Mujtaba, Pankhaj Dharmani should also be classified as success.
