Needs 26 wickets in 3 Tests if it's to be in SL. I hope he doesn't get it there so he can get it in Australia and I can actually get to watch it. That's if he tours though.

26 wickets in 3 Tests isn't all that much for a bowler of Murali's calibre, against a team like Bangladesh. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he got it.

Hopefully Malinda Warnapura is able to make a good start to his Test career with Sri Lanka and notch up a few runs, he is definately a talented batsman and this series will give him the chance to stake a more long term claim.

Mohammad Mahmdul Riyad:

Age: 21
Height: 5'11

Batting: Right-hand Bat
Batting Avg.: 28.46

Bowling: Right-arm Off-Spin
Bowling Avg.: 37.35

He has been included for the Sri Lankan tour. Please don't be misled by the information provided on cricinfo which claims him to be a Right-arm fast-medium bowler.
Decent statistics... are they OD or FC? Still on the high-side, especially for what seems to be domestic stats.

I've never seen Mahmudullah Riyad play at all, nor have I really read much about him as a player, but his selection seems a bit of a compromise. He has mostly batted quite low in the order for both Dhaka and Bangladesh A, and his bowling has hardly ripped through sides. Sometimes he doesn't even get much of a bowl for Dhaka in List A stuff. Can't see him being a big success.

Ashraful as captain is a huge risk, but probably the only real option. Rafique isn't going to be around for long enough (plus he's a bowler and doesn't appear captaincy material), while among the batsmen no-one has either the mindset or stable position to become captain. Had Shahriar Nafees remained a fixture, he would have got in, without a doubt.

Not confident here. Muralitharan to hammer us twice.

At least theres a Third Test .... but I feel we can hold our own in the 1st Innings of these tests and then when the pitch opens up Murali will clean us up. Plus the bowling will be a lot better because were not playing in the flattest Tracks in world aka Dhaka and Chittagong. I expect 3 pacers (Shahadat, Mashrafe, Rasel) along with 1 spinner Rafique and 2 part time bowlers in Ashraful and Sakib.

I think Bashar will bat with a purpose and a vengeance now that the captaincy burden is off him.

After some of the stuff he served up against India before tea on day one of the first Test (I think), part-time might be a generous description of Ashraful's bowling.

Agreed though, can't see the point of another spinner as there's no-one else in form at the moment, unless the track is going to turn straight away. Sakib's more than a part-timer, he can hold an end up.

Have to disagree with regard to these pitches...SSC is a turner from Day 1 and so is P.Saravanamuttu stadium . R.Premadasa would have been a seamer friendly pitch but the Test which was scheduled there has moved to SSC. Only the Asgiriya (Kandy) pitch will have something for the seamers, IMO. Others are really unlikely to help seamers Much.

The Bangladeshi Batsmen have had an hour of net sessions each on average everyday with 30 minutes in the middle and 15 each on the side nets.

Ashraful on average has practiced bowling over an hour everyday since the end of Afro-Asia cup.

Razzak has been called up for the test squad.

Would be interesting to see Ash bowl more :)!

BTW did you guys get a dig on the Malinga-like bowler discovered during the Grameen Phone Pacer Hunt? He has a slinging action and his stock delivery reaches 84mhp and the kid has not as of yet played any professional forms of cricket. His name is Rubel and he has been used in the nets recently to bowl to the Bangladesh National squad just so they can get used to the pace and swing :).

True! I still don't understand what was wrong with Enamul Haque Jr. though .....why did they not choose him for the tests?????

You would have thought that they'd have had him there, just in case Razzak is out of form or injured. He's not going to improve stuck in Bangladesh.

I suspect they weren't too impressed with him in the test against India (he played the first one, right?). Not sure how appropriate it is, but the commentators also commented on how his front-on action would limit his effectiveness considerably.

Hopefully the boys can score some runs and get good practice in the 3-day match tommorow, don't want a repeat of what happened last time
