Ireland particularly get hurt by having their best players going to play for counties. Then they got a pretty crap overseas player relatively speaking while others have good 'uns which makes a lot of difference.

Ramprakash continues his unbelievable run of form with 142* against Sussex in the FP Trophy. He's such a class act, he may never have really made it at international level, but he's streets ahead of most domestic players.

I was going to go to the game today but had to go to work instead. :@

Put into context how impressive James Harris performance for Glamorgan was last week, his now unavailable for the Middlesex game tomorrow for his sitting an exam.

From The Times "Unfortunately I can't play for Glamorgan next week because I have exams on Tuesday and Thursday. I've got to get my head in the books over the next couple of days. I want to do well in my exams and then hopefully it will be cricket, cricket, cricket for the rest of the summer."

Whilst Simon Jones also finds himself on the sideline, being dropped in favour of Damien Wright.

Was about to say that it looked like being a really close ending between Sussex and Surrey, and then Mahmood came back and got Goodwin, so it looks like curtains for Sussex. Still, it looks like it's been a cracking game though, gutted I didn't go now tbh.

Would have liked Sussex to win it as well :@

I don't remember asking you this, nor anyone else, but... how did you get to Sussex as a Kent fan? :dontgetit

I can't speak for Spitfires Fan, but I live in Kent and consider myself a Surrey fan first and foremost. Born and raised in Surrey and moved to Kent around 20 years ago. I do watch Kent as well and would support them against anyone else.

Perhaps SF just lives in one of the border towns.

Haha, well I'm originally from Warwickshire but moved to Sussex when I was a kid. But my Dad was born and raised in Kent, and supported them and took me along to games, so I kind of fell into supporting them. I started getting into county cricket when players like Fleming and Ealham were in their heyday, and I also remember the year when de Silva came over as an overseas player and shattered a few records. That left me pretty much hooked

Plus I also liked the idea that there was a tree withing the playing area at Canterbury. Not anymore. Well, not one worthy of note anyway.

I only get over to see a couple of matches a year - partly because of the distance, partly because I'm a poor student.

A new round of games today:

Div 1:

Durham v Yorkshire
Kent v Hampshire

Div 2:

Glamorgan v Middlesex
Northamptonshire v Derbyshire
Nottinghamshire v Essex
Somerset v Gloucestershire

Kent are off to a bit of a flyer against Hampshire, in spite of losing Key for a duck lbw to Clark.

Trescothick's just gone for 17 to Anthony Ireland.

Ah, the great Aravinda. My favourite batsman of all-time. :)

I was going to post this in the Panesar thread, but I'll do it here.

If England ever did need two spinners - who is the the bowler who would support Panesar.

Simply, who is the second best spinner in England?

(And please, take the likelihood of them playing for England into consideration)

Most other countries have a recognised and competent second spinner, its just intresting that England have never had a quality spinner for a number of years, consequnetly, the 2nd spinner wouldn't be much chop.

Very strange morning/early afternoon, with Glamorgan all out for 60. Kent wouldn't be doing much better if it wasn't for Joe Denly. Essex and Derbyshire are 6 and 7 wickets down respectably. Could be a few pitch inspectors doing the rounds I think...

I would say Gary Keedy, or perhaps Monty's team mate at Northants, Jason Brown.

Yeah - a class act. As far as I know, the two record partnerships he participated in during his time at Kent still stand, Would need to check that though as Van Jaarsveld has been in a few since arriving. What wouldn't I give for him to recapture some of that form this season
