Most nights are poor nights in the NRL world of Shane Perry tbh
True, but he has improved since the beginning of last season, and he does have a premiership at halfback. Not many halfbacks playing at the moment do. Gower's the only one I can think of, off hand.

OK. What about Byrne at fullback?
Could work decently. I think you have less good options in the outside backs than at five-eighth though. Rovelli, Witt and Hohaia are all first grade standard five-eighths IMO, even if Rovelli is in poor form. There's also Ropati who Cleary is obsessed with playing there for some reason. Aside from McKinnon, there's no-one who really demands selection in the outside backs though.

i agree the standard this year is as bad as it has been in a long time, the attacking play of pretty much every team in general has been crap. The ball handling hasnt been too bad but theres far too much one out and dummy half running, was always bound to happen given how much value is placed on field position in the game these days...
...
Mate, for sure. The standard has been pretty dire this year. So many teams don't even show to the game committed. There's been so many blow outs, and the games that have been close have featured some God-ordinary attack. There's very little spontaneity. People confuse a close competition with a good competition.

Really excited about the game on Wednesday. I've never seen Greg Inglis live at the game before, so that should be swell. For me, going to the game, I always enjoy the 10 minutes before hand - probably even more than the game itself. It's the anticipation that makes something so great.

Anyway, the last three Origin openers have all been decided by one point. So, it should be good.

Mate, have a great one up there. I haven't been to Suncorp since it re-opened but everyone I know who has reckons it's the most amazing stdium to watch the game. Should be a cracker.

Man that was one of worst 2nd half of football from NSW ever. But really even when NSW was in front, it was always Queensland game to win or lose. NSW had no answer to Queensland attack at all. Every time they were in our 20, they were unluckly to score.

Mullen had one of worst games at half back i have ever seen. He had two good kicks all game. His passing game was ok, but really it was poor decison to play him. But he did show some potential, i don't think Kimmorley, Gower or Orford would have made much difference. His probably still worth letting him play the 2nd game atleast, as he will be good for experience later on.

But where was Simpson, Tupou and White, we had nothing of the bench. Time for some changes there Hoffman got to be certainity and Bird, Gallen should probably get a run as well, those three were pathetic.

As a neutral how good was Thurston, surely he has to be the next Queensland captain. I haven't seen how his gone for NQ as captain, but he lead them around the park brilliantly. His going to break a lot of NSW hearts in the next 5 years.

The referring was crap, lets hope we get a new ref next game.

Harsh on Mullen, no he wasn't brilliant, but you'd have to be a knumbskull if you thought he was actually going to come out and dominate. He made a few good plays, and yes his kicking game wasn't the poor, but he's far better for the experience. He also wasn't helped by the fact that his fowards couldn't catch to save themselves which gave him little oppurtunity to do anything at all in the 2nd half.

I would almost guarantee, in game 2, if the selectors aren't bogans, and he is still fit, you'll see a far more confident Mullen, and in turn with it, a much better performance from him.

Thurston was good, but i certainly didn't think he was the best player on the paddock, afaic Steve Price should've been MOTM. He was awesome all game, put in 100% the entire time he was on the field, the charge down, and gaining of possession with 5 minutes to go pretty much summed up Prices performance for me.

QUEENSLANDER!!!!! :D:D

Hunt was outstanding too, showed why he should be the fullback without a doubt...
Too right. As good as Slater is, can't see him making the side. And the selectors have got it right not putting Bowen anywhere near the QLD camp.

Didn't Price get MOTM? I just assumed it was a given!

Nah Thurston, Price was unlucky to not get it, but when to forwards ever get it in Orgin.
