Has Manu Vatuvai got the worst hands in rugby league?
Ben Pomeroy, Neville Costigan and the whole Panthers team rival him somewhat, but I'd still go with Manu. He could probably get away with it if he played prop, but his hands simply aren't good enough to play in the outside backs and they never have been. The Warriors do have a bit of a problem in the outside backs - I really don't rate Ah Van, Martin (even though he's improved out of sight this season and has the added value of good goal kicking) Vatuvei or Byrne at all there, and Mannering is much better in the back row. I'd be tempted to move Ropati to the centres, even though he had a top game at five-eighth today.

Yep, they've gone rapidly downhill after a decent start to the campaign. Ropati's not a 5/8th. They badly, badly need to buy 2 decent centres. Don't mind Byrne on the wing but Vatuvai's hands haemorrhage points. Not going to trouble the top half of the table the way the are going. Same old, same old

I'm allowed to support the Blues. I lived in Sydney for a year. You should move to Aus Perm, it would increase the IQ of both countries :p
Thought you might have been wittier than that.

Managed to catch the end of the Sharks vs Bulldogs game today, disappointed to see the Sharks win that.

I reckon the standard of league has dropped this year though - perhaps not so much in the middle places, but as in what it'll take to finish top 4 or take out the premiership. If the Warriors can sort out their selection issues, I think they can make the 8 in a fairly good position, and once that happens, their forwards will suit typical semi-final league. Their backline needs a major overhaul IMO... how dp Vuna and Kirk go for the Lions? How long until Crockett is back (not I ever thought he was that good either, mind..)? Mannering will probably have to stay in the centres due to lack of better options, and I'd move Ropati to partner him (even though it won't happen, due to his good performance at five-eighth today).

The real questions are over what exactly you do with Rovelli, Witt, Fien and Hohaia. They can all play half and five-eighth, and they can all play hooker as well excepting Witt, and I'd say there were all of pretty similar quality. They seem to swap around between games and even during games far too much, so I'd be inclined to pick something and stick with it. Would probably go with Rovelli at five-eighth (where he played in Premier League for the Roosters and was so dominant so many seasons ago) and Witt at halfback (where he's played all his good football) and Hohaia on the bench (where his footwork and skill could come to full use without having to do too much defence or organise the team). Whatever happens though, the decision should be relatively final instead of the hap-hazard disruptive stuff that's going on now.

Good analysis, I'm off to bed but will have a think about it and get back to you with my thoughts on how they can turn things around tomorrow Prince. Definitely think Hohaia should be starting

i agree the standard this year is as bad as it has been in a long time, the attacking play of pretty much every team in general has been crap. The ball handling hasnt been too bad but theres far too much one out and dummy half running, was always bound to happen given how much value is placed on field position in the game these days...

Also the ammount of players that have gone to union and england hasnt helped as well as the introduction of a new team...

Yeah, I drag it out hoping people having heard it but obviously it's too old now. Ah well
First time I'd heard it actually and I thought it quite funny. Used it myself in reference to a New South Welshman moving to Queensland today on another forum. :p

Hey Prince, it may sound like a pretty random idea but how do you think Wade McKinnon would go at 5/8th? Don't know if he can kick at all, do you?

McKinnon played five-eighth for Souths reserve grade once many years ago and was absolutely pathetic. There's quite a few fullbacks who I think would go okay at five-eighth but McKinnon isn't one of them. He rates his own kicking game but it's pretty dire and he has basically no passing game. Has a good running game for the position though and tackles well enough. Probably isn't the worst idea in the world if he was used in an unorthodox role there, but he'd probably just be a poor-man's Ropati. Plus the fact that Ah Van was absolutely dire when he played fullback during McKinnon's suspension.

OK. What about Byrne at fullback?

Let's hope the Broncos have Kemp signed up for a few more years, I think a few clubs might be very impressed with that performance. Great debut.

Very disapointing to lose of course, but a solid showing from the Broncos all the same. Would have liked to have seen Moon get a bit more ball. Perry choose a poor match to have an off night.

Most nights are poor nights in the NRL world of Shane Perry tbh
