Just had a chance to get this guy for 7.5m but I bottled it. :(

Tayub Wijesinghe (807845)
LH Batsman, LF Bowler, superb batting form, superb bowling form, fair
A destructive player with competent leadership skills and abysmal experience.

Plays For: Dobcross
Nationality: Sri Lanka
Age: 19 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 58,611
Wages: £7,362 p/w

He was a superb/prof, remark/comp all-rounder with superb stamina. Thing that turned me off was the fact his consistency would make him near useless against decent batsmen unless I could train him which I can't.

Lack of PC for the last 4 months have meant that i have no clue of my battrick happenings, really gutted to find out that my team got promoted this season was hoping that I stay in division 3 for one more season then build my team a bit more so that I can compete when i get promoted to 2nd div.

Looks like we are in the same league and it looks like we are both going to get smashed. Atleast it will be interesting playing each.

For all you T20 fans, the giant killers, in LOreal-Zat! were knocked out today, by Sagehans, who finished #2 in Div.I NZ. Huge upset after yesterdays win against Ladbroke.

Dont worry you will easily get past me.:)

Have 1.5 mill in the kitty, kinda confused whether to go and buy a few resp and comps or wait for another season and pick up a gun or two.

Better off buying a strong+ if you can, resp/comp are a waste of time in Div 2.

Decent start for my lot in the BT20, even though no wickets taken yet. Put them into bat on a flat wicket, they're 16-0 after 3 with Tynan only going for 9 off his 2 overs.

Yep, Summers can't get anyone out and got hit...

My opponents strangely managed 172-1 off their 20, weird considering my bowling is better than their batting and it's extremely rare to see a team batting first to just lose one wicket in real life - but as we know BT doesn't really reward wickets in hand by being more aggressive etc.

I'm chasing nicely tho:

End of Over 7: 79-0, runrate=11.29, reqrunrate=7.23 (172-1)

OK, just posted this in the sledging devs board, titled 'Risk v Reward - Match Engine'

This is from my perspective as someone with an analytical brain who sees a lot of matches play out on Battrick.

One of the obvious, large problems with both BT20 and OD engines is the risk v reward aggression. No wickets down with 15 overs to go batting first in a BT OD... watch your two batsmen play out the next 5 overs as normal, then the next 10 with the normal 'death over' mode. Same happens in BT20 - tons of wickets in hand and they'll bat normally (relatively speaking) for most of the match. An exception seems to be that the last two overs in BT20 seem to play out super aggressively (obviously Allan will know whether this is true or not). This problem is emphasised in lots of competitive BT20 matches where teams are scoring 170-1 and such - you would just hardly ever see scores like that in real life.

What should happen is you take more risks with all those wickets in hand and score more quickly (which also means you're more likely to get out, risk v reward). This should be happening generally in BT20 anyway, more risks = more wickets. The more wickets seems to be mostly happening in the mismatches (my gun bowler Summers was cleaning up til today, I chased down their total of 171-1 and only lost one wicket) - as shown by lots of scores with very few wickets down in the matches with batting >= bowling. When you're being particularly aggressive anyone, not just the gun bowlers, can get you out (or more you get yourself out not quite clearing long off ala Flintoff etc. - this sort of thing should be strongly linked to form, success at high aggression is more likely if you're timing it nicely, if you're not well... think Flintoff, Hussey in the WC).

I will say that the in general number of runs, number of 4s and 6s, volatility etc. seems fine for BT20. I would also suggest that the last 10 overs in BT20 is hugely superior to the last 10 overs in ODs which are just ghastly (monotonous - 1111141111 etc, obscene collapses or virtually nothing, dire bowlers going for virtually the average death over run rates etc.). It would be a big improvement if the last 10 overs from BT20 was effectively copy and pasted across into the OD engine to be honest. The only consideration is that the ball would be older in the last 10 stage of the OD, but that'd be fairly insignificant in that you'd probably not be able to tell the difference if it was tweaked to cover that.

If risk v reward was implemented properly then I would begin to look at the match order aggression levels, very attacking batsmen you would expect mostly an Afridi - early dismissal or 20-30 off 10 balls type stuff - this would add so much more strategy to the game. You would also expect them to come off more or better if they have certain temperaments (I don't know if the temperaments are supposed to mean a certain style as well, like a defensive batter would play like Kallis as opposed to being a pessimist, or a destructive batter would play like KP, as opposed to being Mark Vermeulen). A good attacking/destructive batter should score faster and get out less on very attacking than a defensive or cautious batsman - who might end up annoying the hell out of you by fiddling around somewhat *cough*Kallis*cough*.

Another important thing about the risk v reward thing is that (from what I've seen at least, so this is an unproven theory) teams batting second have quite a significant advantage in BT20 (and apparently there's an advantage generally in batting second in ODs from raptornex's figures), seemingly from the chasing side being set to the right aggression levels to get a target and there not being much added risk in doing so. You expect there to be a benefit when you bowl sides out cheaply, but not so much when the target is higher. Also the team batting first would get bigger totals when they're not losing wickets. These things would hopefully, with whatever pressure-on-team-chasing mechanics there are, balance out batting first and second to more like it is in real life.

Hi, missed all the playoff and BT20 fun as my wife dragged me off last minute to Spain for a fortnight.

Sadly lost my promotion playoff, so another season in Div IV. Bowled them out for 248, but only managed 177 in reply, Greening Stranded on 95*. Was even more disappointed when I saw the ratings: Mine on GFI, Sup/Prof/Abs - Strong/Strong/Feeb, theirs, Resp/Resp/Abs - Rem/Woe/Woe.

But the BT20 was much more productive, cleaned up in my group and reached the fourth knock-out round, was that the last 256? Chased in all my games, apart from the one I lost, and overhauled every target without losing either Greening or Staveley for the first wicket. When I did eventually bat first, against a Sri Lankan Div II side not that much better than me, We spluttered to 103 all out, Greening again marooned on 52*. Had them 34/4 in reply, but they pulled away after that and won by five wickets.

Have five players over 20k BTR, including two over 30K, with another two set to pass 20K in the next month or so.

In two seasons' time I'd like my side to look something like this:

1. Greening, Mast/Qual
2. Staveley, Wond/Qual
3+. Noon, Rem/Exc Bat, (Rem WK)
4. Mohammed Qual/Prof
5. Trainee, Sup
6*. Patel, Strong/Resp, (Sup/Comp CPT)
7B5. Trainee, Prof/Comp Bat, Sup/Resp Bowl
8B4. Cash, Resp/Sup Bat, Strong/Prof LHS
9B2. Wilde., Feeb/Comp Bat, Rem/Strong RM
10B1. Bewers, Feeb/Feeb Bat, Exc/Qual LM
11B3. Bridges M, Abs/Abs Bat, Sup/Prof RHS

Expecting a whole load of pops in the next week or so. Playing Dynamo Morpork on Sunday, should be interesting!

Laters, Trev

Hmm, I was reading off a list made by someone else and they had them down as having lost for some reason. Seems the Australian teams have fared best with 6 out of 16 (assuming DLoE wins), wonder how much of that is down to the advantage with the earlier PFL updates.
