I also follow Sunderland, read all the news, watch other Prem games when United isn't playing, enjoy watching Revista La Liga (or whatever it's named, pretty sure that's it) and keep close tabs on the progress of certain players throughout Europe. I know all about West Ham's progress because two of my bosses follow them so I do as well in order to keep up decent conversation. I just happen to talk more about my club than other clubs because there's a lot to talk about with them, especially right now. Not to mention the fact that non-United supporters always seem to talk about them too. :p

But no, I don't have an interest in the Joey Barton debacle or who Stoke City are going to sign because I have no reason to have an interest in it. I'll read about it and note it, but talk about it, no. Why would I?

I can tell you who's leading all the major European competitions and who is seated in CL spots etc, but it wouldn't really interest any of you, probably, either.

There happen to be a lot of fans of United and there happen to be a lot of people who follow United's progress enough to talk about them. It's only natural it'll happen. Get some of your supported club's fans that happen to like cricket and the internet to join here and boost your own discussions, maybe? I don't have a problem with people talking about other clubs.

Last I checked, United were part of the English Football Season 2006-07, so it's only reasonable that people are able to discuss them in here. Would be kind of stupid to expect everyone not discuss the Premiership title race during and immediately after the games where the title is being won/lost.
Look, I was probably a bit excessive in my previous post, but the point I'm trying to mkae is that, of late, the thread has been swamped by Untied this, United that. Not so much title race, but the intricacies of their squad, and whether or not Ben Foster's left toenails are long enough. Obviously United are part of the 0607 season, and I don't think all Man u discussion should be barred, but...ah **** it, like anything I say will make a difference anyway

Don't worry, I know some discussions around here are very petty. :p I don't blame that 100% on United fans though. It's the people who debate the things that they say at ever opportunity that tend to be the ones that cause such discussions.

I appreciate that. I wasn't attacking you, or anyone specifically. The thread just seems to have tailed off in quality of late, which is a shame as it's on of the first I visit at CW.

I guess for 05-06 we had Thierry Henry, for 06-07 we have Man U and their injuries :p

Some very interesting rumors in the air today on BBC, these take the cake for me:

Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o is Manchester United's top transfer target. (Daily Mail)

Manchester United want to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Nani in a £17.5m swoop. (Daily Mirror)

A £9m release clause in Newcastle forward Michael Owen's contract has alerted Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. (Various)

Barcelona are set to make a £15m bid for Arsenal striker Thierry Henry. (Daily Star)

Injury-prone midfielder Kieron Dyer is likely to be one of the first players sold if former Bolton boss Sam Allardyce becomes the new Magpies manager. (The Independent)

Real Zaragoza defender Gaby Milito has pleaded for the chance to join Liverpool after they lined up a £10m player-plus-cash deal involving Mark Gonzalez. (Daily Mirror)

Marseille winger Franck Ribery has said that Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan are clubs he "dreams" of joining. (The Independent)

I seriously doubt whether United will get Eto'o or whether Henry will leave Arsenal. If that thing about Owen is true United should push hard for him but then again i do respect & admire the magpies & would like to see them do well & having Owen is key to that. Thats why its strange that i their new coach would consider selling Dyer i would think a fit Dyer would be a great asset to them.
I'll say Dimitar Berbatov has a better chance of joining your team then Eto'o or Owen. The player and his agent are deadset denying it all and sundry, but I reckon old mate (always wanted to use that phase on here) will end end up there, all of this denying can only mean one thing IMO.

(by 'old mate' I mean Bebatov)

And geez that was a dire effort by Inter. Granted there are some key injuries and the title has been won, but WTF

I'm boycotting next season's footy thread if it turns into a Man U discussion all season. Seriously bored with like the last 50 pages (I view 40 posts a page), it's all Man U Man U Man U. They may be the champions, but they're not the only ****ing team in England, there's 91 other league sides, and we have Exeter fans in this thread, who don't even fall into that. I've seen a Man U thread floating round this board lately, can't we the John O' Sheas and Kieran Richardsons of the world in that?
Had enough of fans of so-called "big" teams, TBH. Not just on this board, everywhere. Moaning when their team finishes second in the league or loses the FA Cup final. Get a grip, FFS.

I agree on that much. It goes further than just that, though. Even if we're top of the league, there are a lot of people who STILL go around as if we're being relegated. I hate the people who are depressed every time we lose. There are a few of them at UnitedRant and they do my head in. Constantly slate the players, manager, say we're not good enough etc. whenever we lose. Say "this was our best chance, we'll never have a chance like that again" whenever we go out of the CL, every year... ugh. Do you guys get the same thing in the FA Cup? "Oh, this was our best chance, we've blown it..." etc?

I agree.

However, it revolves just as much around the people who hate United as the people who support United, and I frequently see things posted which simply aren't true and have to reply.

Okay, fair enough. Glad people don't think I'm being totally unreasonable

Maybe next season I'll start a Championship and below thread :p :D

That's actually not a bad idea.

While I wouldn't be against seperate threads for every one of the seperate leagues/cups, that could lead to an incredibly massive amount of threads. But one for Championship and under at the least would be good.

Let's see, who supports non-Prem English clubs?

Myself (Tranmere)
Matteh (mansfield)
Pickup, grecian (Exeter)
Pothas (brentford)
dav (Oldham)
Tomm NCCC (Forest)

I'm sure there are more, and the likes of Brumby have an affection for a local smaller club (the club escapes me, is it Cambridge City?) and a genuine love for the game at all levels.

it would be breaking with CW tradition, steds would protest at there being too many soccer threads (:p) and might not be a popular idea.

Thoughts people? If the lower league lot think it's a good plan, then we could start it in the offseason. Lower league discussion does tend to get lost amongst the bigger stuff

I always find one team or another to support in each league. Just the way I am, I guess. If every team I support is promoted/relegated, I just find another. :p

United technically, but more of my drinking mates have City leanings so end up going to see them more often. Only seen the U's once this season; musta seen City half-a-dozen times.

Yes, we get that most times we lose on Exeweb. It's best avoided in the immediate aftermath of a defeat, much like attempting intelligent conversation with a Man Utd fan.

Essien would be, but not as a centre half, but I wouldn't say Kalou would be.

What I objected to was the blinkered view that this was pretty much a full strength Chelsea side...
Notice I said almost full strength. Drogba, Lampard, Carvalho, Cech and Shevchenko were missing. The only people playing against Man Utd who haven't been major parts of Chelsea's season were Sinclair and Cudicini. Better if I had used a different word? Say more experienced?

Yeah I hate those people too. Spend more time defending the club than talking about the match, signings, etc.

Marc supports Coventry as well.

Would be nice if Man United supporters actually knew anything about the rest of the league system though.
I do actually just can't be bothered to talk about it. I know who's won the Championship and who's in line for promotion to it from League One. Like say Nottingham Forest and Leeds may end up facing each other next season if Forest lose thier playoffs. not important to me though.
