What right have you to say that?? The setup is not 'unremarkable' and is not inept, so feck off.
The tables from the last few years suggests otherwise to be honest, another season of duldrumming and doing nothing much on this pitch.. Oh well, twenty20 coming up..

Er, no it's not. Pete Trego's one of the best bowlers so far this season (looking at that new rating system he's ranked about 7th, I think), Steffan Jones is very handy and Mark Turner's looking very good.

They spent thousands of pounds at the end of last season for an outside contractor to re-lay the pitch in the hope of making it more bowler friendly. It hasn't helped that it hasn't rained properly in months. I can tell you now that Frosty, the head groundsman, is really not happy with it.

Bit touchy there dear, your team conceded 800 against Derbyshire this week so I wouldn't say too much about the bowling. We all want our sides to do well, but you have to be realistic - Somerset are a rubbish 4-day outfit with the potential to do well in limited overs.

Indeed, Dale had just recently become centrally contracted and as such the amount of overs he is allowed to bowl a day is limited by Cricket South Africa, to the agreement with Warwickshire.
Oh right - wasn't aware of that, but if he's going to keep bowling like he seems to be so far, I'm sure we can live with it!

Sorry, I was getting a bit carried away

Anyway, Somerset are not a 'rubbish' 4-day outfit this year. I think we can safely discount any 4-day matches on the Taunton pitch because it gives an unfair advantage to anyone batting, but away from home I'm expecting much better things this season.

Anyone have any idea when some of the New Zealand players will be heading back to County Cricket? I assume guys like Fleming and Styris are still going to be playing for Notts and Middlesex.

styris will not be at middlesex this year, our overseas players are chaminda vaas and murali kartik. about time we had some decent bowlers.

Granted you beat Leicestershire but they were without two on England duty whereas Somerset had Trescothick for a change - given the usual situation you might well have lost. Also Somerset finished last in 2006. Since then Somerset have changed the bowling a bit (doesn't look to be much of an improvement there on paper) and not a great deal else.

With regards to the bowling, Caddick & Willoughby were the best new-ball pair in the country last season & Steffan Jones took 50-odd for Derbyshire. With the batting, this year we have Langer captaining, Hildreth seems to have learnt from 2nd season blues he had last year, White's back (& playing well), Blacwell's fit (he was absent with a shoulder injury for most of last season, which didn't help because he was also captain), we have an exciting new prospect in Kieswetter and Edwards is in a great patch of form.

Murali Kartik eh? Wondered what happened to him.

Also any reason why RTD was batting behind James Foster? Surely an injury?

I love how Mahmood is hit around the ground at every level of the game. I was watching cricinfo his first ball of the day 4, how often have we seen that. I'm just happy it wasn't for England this time. Economy rate 6.64. I was happy, I could see the England selectors possibly finally realising the mistake they have made and then BANG he picks up two wickets and they are (in their minds) vindicated. Were they in the same over?

It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.. Imagine the guys who take hundreds of wickets in the championship, bowling line and length and troubling so many different batsmen , and don't even get a mention.. And this joker comes on, sprays it around, picks up a wicket, and hes in, game after game..
