I would say that has more to do with Chelsea than it does Glazer.
True and Arsenal the season before. Those three seasons Chelsea and Arsenal were simply unbeatable. Pretty hard to say it's Ferguson's fault that Arsenal didn't lose a game and even if United had beaten them twice they still would have won that season because they were that good. Also, Chelsea over the last two seasons have lost acouple games but thier ability to throw on a sub and win the game wasn't Ferguson's fault. He can't help that Abramovich's money + Mourinho totally dominated the other teams in the league. In fact Manchester united were performing better last season than they have in seasons when they won the title. That's just to show how silly it is to slate ferguson when he had the team performing better than they had in seasons previous when Man Utd were dominant.

Absolute rubbish has he had to.

He never sold before buying the likes of Pallister, Keane etc.

Those were far from cheap signings and they were the catalyst from which everything else snowballed.

It's only since Glazer came in that he's actually had any real constraints, and interestingly he's won nothing of note since then to date.
Could well come back to haunt you...

Notice the ignoring of Cantona and Schmeichel. You'd be hard-pressed to deny that Cantona was the number one catalyst from which everything snowballed, as you put it, by a distance, and arguably Schmeichel was 2nd.

Additionally, much of our 90s side came from our own youth side, which Ferguson was instrumental in setting up.

Also, to tackle your point head-on, Ferguson sold Whiteside, Strachan and McGrath to cover for most of his 80s transfers, which you seem to be referring to.

No, because at the time of posting, he had won nothing of significance, hence the "to date"

And the sale of those 3 doesn't even come close to covering Pallister, let alone anything to do with Keane.

As for the Cantona / Schmeichel transfers - they were still major investment for the times they were made.

And if it's only "to date" I question the relevance of it.

Our exodus in summer 1995 covers for Keane quite nicely.

£550,000 is nothing for who was at the time the world's best goalkeeper, even in 1991.

Selective stats, go on for a further year and you have the transfers out in '95, which brings it down, regardless of Andy Cole. Infact, after a bit of wiki, combined fee was £14 million.

87-94 = 8 years, that's a difference of under 2 million a year anyway, not very much.

Considering that Man Utd weren't at their greatest during this period and the fact that transfers rarely hit 3 Million ever, 15Million is a lot. Also note the sale of Dion Dublin for 2Mil right at the end, could have been an even bigger difference.

He was alright at Man City, went to Reading/Southend and then retirement apparently. Good international scoring record too considering (36/32)

IIRC he was told by Reading he wouldn't play for them again in the middle of last season because he was 1 appearance away from triggering a payment, so he came to Coventry for a while.

Always for me a player where the hype overshadowed what he's actually achieved.

Doesn't change the fact that it's selective stats, as I said. And as I said £15 million isn't a lot over 8 years, and lots of transfers. If it had been over only a couple of years, considering the common fees at the time, then it would have been a lot.

Back in that day and age £15m was a lot.

Look at the prices being paid, and you'll see how much it was.

I guess you can't really finish this argument without a direct comparison with the other top clubs, such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Barca, Real, etc. I'm not too good on my history so I'm unsure on exactly which clubs would have been top clubs during those times, though.

Liverpool were getting to end of their golden era and Arsenal won in 1990/1 with that Michael Thomas effort.
