New Signing for Free State

Hay Signs For South African Franchise

Free State Eagles are delighted to announce the signing of young Greg Hay as one of their batsman for the upcoming World Club Cricket season. The 22 year old New Zealand has had a superb start to his career with Central Districts, averaging over 45 in First Class Cricket and 65 in List A Cricket. These numbers were very influential in the Eagles rush to get the players signature. Club Manager Zac Ritchie said "Greg is a great talent. Anyone who can score runs at his rate on New Zealand pitches will be a good acquisition for our club. We feel that he has the potential to develop into a very good batsman for the Eagles, and we wish him all the best for the season"

New Titans Terror

New Titans coach, Kevin Gough, was luckily enough to land the 4th pick in the draft and gain a key piece for the rebuilding of the squad.

The question was how to use it? Being in the 3rd division for OD cricket, and having 9 players average 40 or more with the bat in the shorter game, meant that strengthening this area was not a priority.

The major aim for the season is to gain promotion into the top division of FC cricket and the pick was used with that in mind.

Titans selected A Van Vuuren, a young allrounder, that averages 58 with the bat and 22 with the ball. Gough said "He will be one of the top batsmen in the side and the all important allrounder that will allow us to play 2 spinners. He is a great pick for the club and the balance of the side. We expect great things from him"

I reckon we will be back in Division Three this time next season. Looks like the four sides that dropped down from Division One; Titans, Warks, Hamps and Auckland will be the sides to beat so far. Hampshire look the early favorites to me, but if Titans get another gun in the draft this round they will have a very good core of 5-6 players. Yorkshire to be the dark horse.

Alright before i do season previews i just want to see what managers goals are for this season. Are they looking for promotion, maintaining their spot in the division or just a rebuilding year.

I'll start off, with this being my first season in Division Two with the Colts i'm mainly just looking to keep my spot in this division. I reckon we got a side that could push most sides in this division and will be there and there abouts. But we haven't improved our batting as much as i like and i think that may hold as back. This will probably be the last season with a main focus towards OD. So next season we probably will be looking a lot more at a push at FC cricket. So basically just building a side and maintaining our positions.

Im looking for a big season from Murali Mudugalle, he was our leading wicket taker last season and is only 20 or so wickets from taking over from Gary Shaw as the club all time wicket taker in FC cricket. I reckon he has the potential to be one of the best FC bowlers in WCC. But like most top young players the hard thing is continuing their form and stats once they reach higher divisions.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Yorkshire's aim will be for a top four finish, with more wins than losses (obviously).

Will be relying on hold hands Evans and Tendulkar to do the bulk of the work in the bowling and batting departments respectively.

Mahela Jayawardene and Martin Love will be looking to provide a solid platform in the middle order to compensate for the inexperience of Kumar, Patel and Smith.

Y Cole is an exciting spin bowling prospect and hopefully he'll be able to run through batting line ups.

nsw will be pushing for top 3 or even promotion. Some good new young talent and the old heads will push around them for what could be a good mixture of youth and experience. Q Moore will lead with the pill but has some great back up with Bloom and young spinner randika. the batting has improved and with young rookie in 2nd xis hitting 2 tonnes in 2 games he will surely be playing first xi cricket in the coming weeks. It all looks promising for the NSW Blues so far. along way to go, in the worlds toughest cricket comp.

AucklandPredicated finish 6th

Auckland the pride of New Zealand, after being the last side left from the country left in WCC. A side that always been seen as team with a lot of potential and a side that could one day match TN in FC cricket and the big four in OD cricket. But have never really lived up to their potential. Last season they had a chance to show they could perform with the big boys in Division One, but struggled to keep up with the top teams. Their lack of depth in both batting and bowling counted against them.

Going into this season Auckland have a chance to rebuild in Division Two, for push for another shot at Division. But the question is have they improved their depth from last season and will their superstars be enough to lead them to promotion and maybe even the championship.

Having a look through their side they probably haven’t improved their depth significantly. They probably still do have a couple of top players still in WCC. The area may fall down is that most other sides in D2 also have some top line players as well, so the key this season will be depth.

Auckland does have good depth in batting, probably not as much as a couple top sides in D2, but enough to keep them competitive. What they lack is depth in bowling and high end bowlers outside Leverock and Komarasu. But even those two are probably a class below some of the other top end bowlers in D2.

With a bit of luck Auckland could finish in the top 3 and push for promotion. But most likely this season will be a rebuilding season for Auckland, where they can assess who is good enough for D2 and above, and who isn’t.

Key Player: D Leverock

ColtsPredicted finish 4th

For years the Colts have been the wiping boys for FC cricket, after years neglecting that form of the game for preference to One Day Cricket. Last season however things have changed at the Colts with FC championship under their beat, the Colts have found a new love for longer version of the game.

Colts go into this season with mix of talent and experience. Like a lot of sides in D2 they have recruited significantly for FC cricket. But unlike other sides recruitment has mainly been designed to stay competitive in D2. Colts squad is probably still a couple seasons away from being a force in FC cricket.

Looking at their squad their strength is their depth in bowling. In Mudugalle, Exley, Johnston and Watson they have four match winning bowlers. A big season from those four could see them pushing their way up the table. But the area they do lack is quality in batting. Most other sides in D2 at least have a couple top end batsmen, whereas Colts have none. They make up for this win depth, as they bat down to number 8, with Watson averaging 40 odd with the bat.

Due to the bowler friendly nature of FC in WCC, Colts could by-pass their lack of quality with the bat, due to their strength with the ball. But they may loss too many matches to provide a significant push for the championship. They however are a good bet for a promotion place. If there bowlers do fail they might be in a long fight to aviod regulation.

Key Player: R Watson
