Blaze is a strange one - disappeared from the Staff early last year with barely an explanation, then came back months later with an angry slant to his posts. Can't say I'm concerned about losing a team member of that ilk.

With Currie out, Robert Cribb gets the surprise call as the spin option for the opening five-day game against the Blacks. With the strength provided by Fuller and Camps in addition to the three specialist seamers - Collins, Smith and May-Quinlan - we can afford to play the allrounder option to fill the spin role.

Gooljar and Williams will be pressing for selection in future FC games though.

Crampton bats at 7 and Camps moves down to 8, hoping to rediscover his good form in batting with the tail.

Wow, interesting. Big opportunity for me with the ball. I've bowled decently in the pre-season and I dominated grade cricket with the ball (although, who didn't, I suppose..) so I hope I can transfer that to a match of importance.

The team looks well balanced though - plenty of good (albeit somewhat out of form in some cases) seam bowling options, myself to provide some variety with my leggies and Liam batting as low as #8.

Post-match Grading
PE Young [9/10] - excellent hundred, but got out at the wrong time in the second innings.
T Mamesh [7/10] - should have had a big score in the first, and same as Young in the second.
BJ Goff [8/10] - a couple of half-centuries, but no big score.
MW DeSilva [2/10] - needs to do a lot more to keep Ullungura and Wilshere out of the team.
SE Fuller [7/10] - a fighting half-century and lots of heart with the ball.
RGEWS Cribb [6/10] - very impressive fighting second innings; bowling wasn't great though.
AJ Crampton [8/10] - saved the match for us with 85; dropped one catch, but was extremely tidy otherwise.
LA Camps [6/10] - decent bowling, but continues to struggle with the bat.
JP May-Quinlan [7/10] - dropped thrice in the second innings, but crucially hung in there; bowling a concern.
AAA Collins [10/10] - full marks for effort on a slow pitch.
MJ Smith [1/10] - barely turned up at all.

Potential side for the opening OD match against Black:

PE Young
T Mamesh (wk)
J Ullungura
SE Fuller (c)
RGEWS Cribb
BL Wilshere
RA Williams
GS Gooljar
JP May-Quinlan
MJ Smith
RG Dunn

The loss of Currie puts a lot more strain on the OD batting (minus the ODI players) than I anticipated. Currie's batting will definitely be missed. But it's an opportunity for Williams to step up and continue to improve his batting.

Lots of bowling options in that team, but Smith, Dunn, Fuller, Williams and Gooljar will be the main 5. Young and Cribb will supplement them.

Yeah, Rhys at seven is a bit of a worry.

With Currie gone for good, is there any chance of a trade/perm loan from another club with surplus players (ie green)?

Just a thought.

I reckon I might keep the post game ratings tabulated, could come handy in deciding the FC and OD player's of the year etc.

Thoughts?
