finaly some one replied to my topic. damn lol i thought it went to trash can with no replies.
yasir hameed and salman butt they both look promising in odi than younis khan. they both should be in the team. players like younis, kaneria, and hafeez should never even be close to the one day side.

what about openning with butt and imran nazir while malik and hameed in number three and four.

Would prefer to have Mohammad Yousuf at #4 myself, but I like Salman Butt opening and Shoaib Malik at #3. I'm not too sure who would be the best batsman to accompany Butt at the top of the order though.

Yasir Hameed or Bazid Khan.

Though Yawer informs me - and he knows these sorts of things - that Bazid's relation to Majid will always hold him back. :(

It's just the fact that I thought the exact same thing when I went back a page earlier today.

Personally I don't see why Pakistan don't open with Shoaib Malik. Our traditional weakness has been opening. Shoaib Malik has opened in one day matches with some success. In addition hes probably one of the best batsmen Pakistan have at scoring at a good rate without taking too many risks. Basically hes the perfect guy for the job. But instead hes wasted at random positions down the order at 6-8 while every tom-dick-harry opener in the Pakistan setup as well as two bit sloggers like Afridi get a chance. Ridiculous farce.

Oh, and just in case people don't misconstrue my statement about Afridi I do believe that two bit sloggers like him can have an important role in ODIs. I just don't think its opening the innings.

Maybe he was told there will be a dope test at the camp and he suddenly remembered he needs to go to London to see his doctor

The selectors feel differently to me, wouldn't be the first time in history that has happened. I still feel he is the best OD opener in Pakistan, he is a gun. One of my favourite players which influences my opinion a shade, but his record doesn't lie. Compare that to Younis Khan, who I think has 3 List A centuries.
If you look at his List-A record minus his ODI performances, he averages 41...a bit of a mystery why he hasn't been able to have a decent ODI career.

Cripes, serious? I'd never noticed that.

I'm so sure when I did that with his List-A-OD domestic-only record a few years ago he averaged like 31... so I'd guess it's gone up in recent years.

Shoaib Malik opening is certainly not the worst idea, but TBH I prefer him at three, especially now Inzamam is no more.

Considering the fact he has only played 28 List A games that aren't ODIs then that stat isn't as impressive as it would be had he play 100 or so non ODI List A games. He has 867 runs at an average of 41 over those 28 games, good stuff but not as compelling considering the lack of games.

Indeed, you can get away to having a poor opener to a certain extent, but you need a solid player at #3 and I can see Malik doing a good job there with the responsibility of captaincy on his shoulders.

Mansoor Amjad is a fine choice on the spin front though.
Has he performed well in the domestic circuit? The last time I saw him for Pakistan A, he was ****.

Are you serious? From what I've seen of him in U-19 and A team cricket he has been very good. However the real test would be at the first class domestic level and I don't think hes played too much cricket at that level. Still a guy I'd definitely be looking towards for the future. He can bat a bit too, which is always a plus, but he should definitely concentrate on his bowling.

what is wrong in playing with abdul rahman? he wasn't given alot of chances.
Oh sure, he should probably be given more of a chance. But my gut feeling is that his quality (or lack thereof) was accurately reflected by his performance against SA, getting tonked to all parts and having no answer against an SA batting lineup that really hasn't been noted for its proficiency at playing spin.

Haha, I can't believe that's all he's played.

And a fair few of those, too, must have been for Notts.
