Bowler of the World Cup 2007

Malinga's early spells have been quite impressive and regularly he has gone at more than 5 or 6 an over. However, his ability to come back late in the game and take the crucial wickets of batsmen who are already set, is invaluable.

Bond easily at this stage...followed by Hogg imo.

Bond has cut potential totals by up to 80 runs by coming back 5-7 overs before the batting side is prepared to launch and picking up wickets. This trend has been freakish since his latest comeback. It will be interesting to see if it continues.

Malinga looks shaky at the start of the innings, I think he definately prefers bowling with the older ball. It might even be worth Sri Lanka holding him back as a specialist death bowler because there are more than just shades of Waqar Younis in him when he starts ripping out those yorkers at the death.

I think if Brett Lee would have played in this series he would [or could] have easily been the best bowler on show its just a pity he is not there.

Anyways Bond and Murali are easily the best bowlers of this tournament so far.

yep definitely bond...hes set a trend of going for basically no runs in his first spell (no1 can get a bat on him) and maybe takin 1 wicket and then coming back for his second spell and consistently pickin up a couple of wickets. brilliant stuff...will be great to see bond bowl to hayden in the last super 8 game.

I'd go as far to say that Bond will be the player of the tournament as long as he doesn't get injured again!

McGrath by far the bowler of the tournament , but Malinga had he played all the games (especially the last 2 he missed) could've made a contest of it.

I was listening to Colin Croft on Radio sport NZ this morning and in his farewell comments he was asked his magical moment of the World Cup and without a hesitation he said " Malinga taking 4 wickets in 4 balls, and it should've been 5 from 5 had the ball that brushed Peterson's stumps actually knocked the bails" .

I suspect for most neutrals and West Indians that would be the moment they would remember from this World Cup for a very long time.

Probably a pick between Bond, Murali, Bracken and Malinga for best bowler...in the end, it will come down to who helped win the cup..meaning, the performance in the semis and finals are the key.

He wasn't the best or anything, but I think Andre Botha deserves an honourable mention. His bowling perfectly suited the conditions but he bowled tremendously against Pakistan and Zimbabwe and, despite carrying injury, has continued to impress. The only downside to his performances is the fact that he makes SP look like he knows what he's talking about.

McGrath, Hogg, Bond and Murali. Depending on who comes to the party for the semi-finals and final will be the bowler of the WC and quite possibly the MOTS (in my books anyways)

At this stage I think the four main candidates would be McGrath, Hogg, Bond and Muralitharan. Still a chance for Tait and Malinga to get up there if they put in some good performances in the knockout games.

For me Bond is still the best bowler in this tournament, but this is the order in which i would rank the bowlers at the WC atm :-

1.S.Bond
2.M.Muralitharan
3.G.McGrath
4.B.Hogg
5.S.Tait (has been expensive but also has been effective)

For me the bowler of the tournament will be Bond, Malinga or Tait depending on who gets the trophy.

McGrath is the pick for mine. Brilliant comeback from some average form in recent times to finish his career on a high.
