That was ridiculous from Nixon. The only reasons that the reverse sweep is even remotely an option are the fact that it's unpredictable and the fact that field is never set for it. When the bowler knows you are going to play it and sets the field for it, it's a ridiculous shot to play. Surely even Nixon must see that there are safer shots to play for a single!

That's pretty irrelevant, on the odd occasion when a player does middle a reverse sweep it doesn't make up for all the fluffed attempts and near dismissals. The bowler and fielders knw he was going to go for it and set the field accordingly, so playing it was dumb.
