Super Eight

what a sad and depressing and disappointing performance by the Irish here, *sigh* hope that they could get some wickets...

Agreed. Would've said the same had some other team been knocked out instead of us.
Why does this come up every time after a minnow fails? We know they are minnows, and there are going to be days where they fail but i see no point wanting a team that didn't qualify. We will get to see pakistan play in international cricket again you know but you get to see the spirit of ireland much after this or at least way less than Pakistan, so why not enjoy what they have to offer.

Yeah, enjoying what they had to offer is what the group stages are there for. I know your a big advocate for so called minnows and I respect that. But the Super 8s are supposed to by a showpiece of the best vs the best. And being bowled out by 77 here and 90 something by Australia is not that. It's not so inconceivable that people lament not being able to see such fierce and traditional rivals such as India and Pakistan going head to head on a world stage.

Again, noone is saying that Ireland doesn't deserve to be there, they do, but at the same time the contests have suffered greatly as has the World Cup. That's obvious in my eyes. It is no coincidence that Ireland and Bangladesh going through have coincided with this being the most boring World Cup ever.

Please remember that Pakistan 74's against England in the 1992 world cup is the 5th lowest total in the world cup.

And you know who are saying this is the most boring world cup ever? it's no coincidence that it's mostly indian fans. I didn't see much of this last wc when kenya and zimbabwe went through the super 6, why? because india was still in.

Well I'm not Indian, all I wanted to see is some good contests between traditional rivals and the top 8 sides in the world.

And I haven't seen any Indian fans complaining here either fwiw.

I agree this world cup has been a shocker, the only saving grace will be if New Zealand win it for me. At the end of the one good match ( Sri Lanka v SAF) my satilitte provider thought it would be a good time to show a Pakistan Music video after Malinga got 2 wickets, I am still pi$$ed about it.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a 'shocker', but the standard of cricket and the standard of the pitches has been pretty dire.

The world cup's been a mixed bag. It started off brilliantly but lost much of its intensity in the middle of the super eight stage. Hopefully, it will pick up in the semi-finals and final. The level of the cricket played has been definitely better than '96 and '03.

Regarding Pakistan and India, there's no doubt in my mind that they'd have been more competitive then Bangladesh and Ireland. However, both of these teams only have themselves to blame for not reaching the super eight so it's really a moot point.

West Indies being off-colour on the field apart from the opening round has really put a damper on the setting as well.

Edit: It's amusing to hear people complaining about the pitches. During the Chappell-Hadlee trophy and the VB series, there was a huge chorus of voices lamenting the roads that were being served for ODI's, and in the world cup, where most pitches have supported bowlers and batsmen equally, people are still equally dissatisfied.

I didn't think it was that good tbh. Granted the last 10 minutes were bloody exciting but for the other 95% of the time it was a poor match. Not the explosive game eveyone was expecting from those two sides (bar the very end).

Yeah I should of rephrased my statement to exciting cricket. Sure there has been good cricket from Australia and at times the other semi finalists. I hightly doubt cricket has won over any new fans during this world cup.
