I think Tait is being criticised a bit too much considering that he doesn't have too much experience of playing at this level, but still 14 wickets in the WC is a very good effort IMO.

Its the experienced and economical blokes like McGrath, Bracken who should complement Tait.

.....?

Has 14 wickets and has done very well in the World Cup. Nothing to scoff at.
I'm not scoffing at his wicket taking ability, not really scoffing at all. It's just the whole thing that people always go on about the "cricket-making-machine" that is state cricket and how it provides better depth than other domestic leagues... I just don't see it happening as often lately, particularly on the bowling front. I guess my expectations of Aussie depth are just too high. :p

Tait played 4 ODI's before this WC. To come in on that and take 14 wickets is indicative of Australian depth. He's a symbol of the depth that when Lee went down, we were able to replace him so 'easily'.

Well, Australia could have picked someone like Gillespie, Bichel or even Noffke instead who did really well in state cricket consistently. They'd be consistently decent without being brilliant but then they'd just retire in the next year or so anyway. Tait is picked as a development bowler - all he really needs to work on is his ratio of good to poor performances and he'll be a top-line bowler. (And yes, I know you could say that about anyone, but Tait's best is so good that it's worth the punt more than other players, seemingly.)

He could also do with a more manly grunt when he releases the ball

Akram and Younis 2 of the most destructive bowlers in history of the game, if not more expensive they were also equally expensive as Tait but we all know with experience how they both improved.

All I ever notice is wide, wide, wide. I never can give 100% respect to a guy who isn't accurate. I mean, I just went through every scorecard from games he's played and instad of looking for his name I just look at the extras column and it's much easier to find him. When you've already bowled so many wides in an over, is it really that hard to stop?

If he could get that tied down, then he'd be a Brett Lee replacement.

If he gets the wide thing tied down, he'd be a better bowler than Lee in my opinion. He's still only bowled four today, one of which was a ridiculous call.

Interestingly enough, he wasn't that bad at giving away extras when playing in New Zealand. One game he partenered Lee and Brett bowled three wides, while Tait bowled none... and got figures of 10-1-26-1.
