Mahmood has pace and bounce and can swing it, as can can both Plunkett and Broad. Ealham has neither of those things.I don't really want to imagine Plunkett,Mahmood or Broad on a flat pitch as well...

They wouldn't be able to make the step up IMOI think Glen Chapple could be very good if given a chance
Maschrenhas in same boat
I'd rather any of those 3 than a county bowler of the likes mentioned before.I don't really want to imagine Plunkett,Mahmood or Broad on a flat pitch as well...
I couldn't argue with much of that, beyond wondering if some of the low scores are because Lewis actually did some damage with the new ball, unlike much of what we saw in 2006.It's hard to judge Lewis because of the limited situations he can bowl and he's weak in the field and with the bat. He's played most games at home, in a lot of day-night games and generally speaking he's played in games where the scoring by the opposition has been signficantly lower than on average:
190ao
252-9
223ao
169-3 (chased down a target in a 40 over match)
274-8 (chased down a target)
235-8
154-9
272-4
246-2 (chased down a target)
205-9
156-6 (chased down a target)
210ao
Playing in those matches will make your stats look better, especially with his style of bowling. Because he's not really played in a fair range of conditions he's largely an unknown. Obviously everyone knows he's generally very effective when the wicket is doing a bit.
Lewis hasn't a particularly great strike rate (worse than Flintoff and Harmison for example), so while he's been very economical (4 an over) he's not had a great effect on scores by taking wickets. He's had one 3-fer (190ao - Harmison took 4 wickets and even Gough took 2) and one 4-fer (156-6) so like I say, not a great effect.

No Ealham is just far more accurate than Plunkett.....but England don't need that do they ?Mahmood has pace and bounce and can swing it, as can can both Plunkett and Broad. Ealham has neither of those things.
I don't give a flying **** about accuracy to be honest. You can be as accurate as you want, but at that pace on a flat, slow deck in the West Indies, you are going to get smashed if you don't do anything with the ball.No Ealham is just far more accurate than Plunkett.....but England don't need that do they ?
Seconded. There is a reason why such a quality bowler as Matthew Hoggard still can't play ODIs.I don't give a flying **** about accuracy to be honest. Who says he does nothing with the ball? Haven't seen him play, but from what I've heard from Richard/others he definitely swings the ball.I don't give a flying **** about accuracy to be honest. Swings it at about 75mph, and for a 5ft 7in guy that's hardly deadly.Who says he does nothing with the ball? Haven't seen him play, but from what I've heard from Richard/others he definitely swings the ball.
That's what I said, yes.So you'd seriously have Mahmood and PLunkett over a guy like Ealham ???????
Salamuddin doesn't think Trescothick's any good, I wouldn't pay his opinions on England any mind.Where is all this Ealham love coming from?
The guys nearly 38 and wasnt much more than decent 1st time around. Even his own mother wouldnt pick him now.
