Good win for New Zealand, disappointed that Styris gave away his wicket at the end. We played well as a team and should look to carry that form into the semifinals.

Indeed. Bonds performance wasn't overly surprising. But Patel was a big surprise. He bowled well, adjusted well to the batsmen charging him, and showed he has the skills to bowl well at the death. Patel outshone Vettori today, even of he didn't pick up a wicket and Vettori did.
Bond is usually a terrible death bowler...

Ponting did elect to field keeping the NRR in mind.
Since they scored 92 off 12.2 overs that wasn't going to have much impact on their overall 'for' total in the NRR calculation which is currently 1145/173.3 = 6.599. Before that it was 1053/161.1 = 6.534. Note that those overs against Ireland only make up 7% of their 'for' total because they only batted 12.2 overs. If they bat 50 overs the runs they make against Ireland make up nearly 24% of their 'for' total. If Australia score at the same rate for 50 overs against Ireland they make 373 their 'for' run rate increases to 6.753.

Fair point. Made absolutely zero sense fielding then if NRR was meant to be increased.

Watching the highlights it looks like Hall has eaten all the pies that were ordered in for Inzi before Pakistan got knocked out.

Great win for the Kiwis!! but really South Africa didn't deserve to win the game they dropped some catches and when you do that you certainly don't help your chances.

Superb all-round performance from Macca and he deserves the MOM award, but now South Africa have really made it tough for themselves and i won't be suprised if they "choke" again against England.

So now the 4th semi spot is wide open for SA,WI,BAN and ENG.

Was thinking when Kallis had 4 from 31 he was trying to give competition for Gavaskar's very slow 39 in one world cup TBH.

Australia vs NZ/SL in the final for me. There's nothing between NZ and SL at the moment, and both teams have surprised me in their level of professionalism. It's shaping up to be a great World Cup Final, and I would love for any team out of these three to go on and win it.

Hoping SL win the CUp. NZL are a very good team but I do think the Aussies will be happier to face NZL than SL in the final.

SL have that bit of X-Factor which I think NZL and RSA don't. Australia understand the Kiwi and Saffie gameplans very well but with SL, they're a bit more unpredictable.

But still i think Aussies will win against the Sri lankans, if the final is Australia v/s Sri lanka (at Barbados) then i think Aussies would have an advantage because of the nature of the pitch in Barbados.

Aussie play spin very well too, compared to other non-sub-continental teams and why are we forgetting the fact that if South Africans can beat the Lankans then you would expect the Aussies to beat the Lankans too.

Will be an interesting game tonight, Bangladesh will be looking to show just how strong they are and should really look to dominate Ireland in every aspect of the game. The three slow bowlers for Bangladesh will be too good for Ireland I think, they really struggled against Michael Vaughan the other day so I doubt they'll fare much better against Rafique, Razzaq and Saqibul.

Fairly Comfortable win by NZ.

*If Fleming had bowled first instead of batting first against SL , then may be NZ would be still unbeaten at the top of the table. *

The 3 teams behind Australia are a confounding lot - SL lost fairly comfortably to SA (albeit a last minute 4 wicket dash by Malinga) , NZ lost fairly comfortably to SL and SA lost fairly comfortably to NZ..... Puzzling or not ....

IMO there's nothing much between these three teams....they are pretty much on par and any one of them can turn the other one over on a given day...

Styris deserves great credit for batting through another decent NZ batting display.(despite my previous criticism of his slow batting v SL.)

He has to be one of the top 3 batsmen of the World Cup after Hayden/Ponting/ Jayasuriya.

I don't know what I want from tomorrows games because if Ireland wins then critics are going to bitch about it's just bangladesh they beat and how sucky Bangladesh is and how their wins were just fluke and how they are minnows too so no credit to Ireland etc. if Bangladesh wins they are going to be like oh, I predicted Ireland wouldn't win a game, Pakistan would be much better. Ireland don't deserve to be there, they didn't make any impact bla bla bla...its a lose lose situation. So best would be a tie but still then the critics are going to say some.
