I don't think Sarwan's qualifications as a captain have anything to do with keeping Ganga out of the role. If Ganga gets Lara's spot in the lineup, and it's unlikely that he will, he would be the clear choice for captain. Ganga is so far superior a captain to Sarwan.

In summation, Sarwan will be captain, but only because Ganga isn't in the side.

He'd have to be established IMO to be clear choice. If he does get Lara's spot he'd have to consistently play in at least three consecutive seires or so and if Sars fails I'd give him the job with Gayle next in line. Hopefully it won't come to that though.

Exactly, the only thing stopping Daren Ganga from being made captain is the fact that he isn't in the ODI side. If he was to take Lara's place then the captaincy should be his. Do you think Ganga will be made captain of the Test team or will they stick with Sarwan (presumably) in both forms of the game?

If Sarwan is ODI captain, he will be Test captain after Lara too. The WICB won't have a player in both teams and only captaining one of them.

I don't see why Gayle should get close to the captaincy. When he's out of form he looks so hopeless and depressing. In that he doesn't bat, bowl or field well and his general presence on the field seems to drag down everyone else. That's not what you need from your captaincy. Even when Lara has been out of form with the bat, he's thrown his effort into his fielding, as always, and constantly tried to gee up everyone in the field.
