hehe Scaly - you will have to cheer for NZ against South Africa... either that or a huge South African win.

FFS that was dire. Knew it was going to happen too
Haha, that's just your NZ supporter's instinct kicking in there.

Looking at it objectively, there was no reason to expect a loss for any other reason than that Sri Lanka are also very good right now.

Yeah, all NZ supporters of any team has that instinct, even if on the outside they say otherwise.

Its always sitting in the bottom of your gut even when things are going good.

What makes it worse is that I fell asleep after about 20 overs and dreamt that we kept on taking wickets and took the victory. Woke up just as the winning runs were hit and I was not impressed :@
Haha I've had similar things happen, with cricket and stuff like bets on sports. Once fell asleep on the couch watching a EPL match having a bit of dough on one team, fell asleep with them 1-0 down, yet had a "realistic dream" that I watched them kick 2 goals and win. Thought it was so real I went to my account and saw they didn't pay me for the bet, was like "WTF." Then saw the result on the net

Australia should slaughter Ireland tonight, expect Matty Hayden to ton up if the Aussies are batting first. Might watch the second innings, but I have rugby in the morning so I doubt I'll get up much earlier than 5:40.

FFS that was dire. Knew it was going to happen too, with so many people talking us up in the media plus our woeful record vs Vaas and Murali I had the feeling we were going to lose. A complete lack of intent shown by our batsman meant we never had SL under any pressure whatsoever. You can't let Dilshan bowl out a maiden in the 46th over FFS. Sure, Fleming got a dud decision but he was always going to get out lbw to Vaas regardless if he was simply looking to scratch around and try to survive. We should have taken far more runs off Fernando and Maharoof in the Powerplays - Vaas was bowling superbly but the others weren't offering much. We let Jayasuriya and Dilshan bowl too cheaply as well - I was going spare watching us continually hit balls straight to midwicket or extra cover when there was a single if they'd hit it to one side. Murali didn't even bowl that well (relatively speaking) I thought - bowled quite a few half volleys and didn't seem to disguise his doosra as well as usual. Didn't get Oram lbw either for probably the first time in history.

You could just tell that it wasn't going to be our day with the ball either after the first couple of overs, what with the leg byes and the inside edges and such. Bond wasn't getting even a hint of swing either and the pitch was pretty docile so they didn't have much trouble seeing him off.

What makes it worse is that I fell asleep after about 20 overs and dreamt that we kept on taking wickets and took the victory. Woke up just as the winning runs were hit and I was not impressed :@
To be fair to the NZ batsmen, I am certain this pitch was prepared differently (or is a different pitch altogether ) to the one in which SA clobbered 350 plus.

Fleming decision was close , and occasionally the benefit is given to the batsman, but Vaas's tendency to curve them in late meant Rauff had no choice - although he could've given Fleming the benefit.

Styris benefitted hugely from the caught behind at 34 that Everyone bar Doctrove knew.
Fulton and Oram benefitted from some plumb LBWs against Dilhara and Murali .

In my opinion things really evened out, although diehard Sri Lankans would disagree and say Styris one gave NZ a big bonus.

IMO, Styris despite his hundred should've accelerated earlier , but for some reason he expected others to do that and thus made it hard for NZ to get that extra 30 runs which could've made this game tighter.

I for one was perplexed by Sangakkara's innings, in that he seemed determined to not let NZ suffer a significant net Run Rate loss. (Daryl Cullinan was getting a bit annoyed about that for obvious reasons)

The two teams may meet again in the Semis and I suspect the result may be different then as will NZ's performance.

Ponting is looking to experiment here with the batting.

Really Ireland have nothing to lose so that they may as well go and have some fun.

And another thing that really baffled me was NZ selectors picking Gillespie after a lay off for a crucial game . That may have been another one of those crucial mistakes that could've changed the game.

great game by SL today, vaas and murali were at there best. Im surprisd NZ didint elect to field first having won the toss and also playing the extra fast bowler. Seemed as if they were trying to avoid facing Murali and jayasuriya batting second.

Anyway I would be really surprised if they dont select Patel for their next game, againt SA any bowler that looks anything like a spinner should always play.
I think they may have been mislead by the previous game at this ground where SA clobbered 350 plus. I am certain this was a different pitch altogether or was prepared differently.

I only saw the second innings, and right from those first 10-15 minutes I could tell it wans't going to be our day. Full credit to Sri Lanka though, they played a much better game than we did.
Sri Lanka's bad day is coming up next .

SL v Australia - fears a severe lashing from Australia.

Top knock from Styris -- I reckon he's already got one hand on the MotM trophy.

100 off 150 plus balls ...I would not give MOM -if anything he slowed NZ from getting a further 30 that could've made it more closer or even a match winning one.

For a guy who had batted from nearly the 3rd over or so till the 50th Over - thats too slow for an ODI ... a bit like the KP knock against Australia ...100 but no Cigar ... pointless, IMO if you cannot accelerate and go up a few gears after playing such a long innings.

Except KP's was 104 off 122 which isn't terribly slow. He could have hit out a little earlier but if he did and got out on 90 he would have received even more critisism.
