Some nice pre season performances so far from the team. The Dunn and Smith combination in OD could be hard to spot this season.

A bit disappointed not to get a match against Bermuda so far. Hopefully i get a decent run in the pre season friendlies to push for a spot as the 2nd opener in ODs.

Plucky Bermuda steal it
Cricket Web Blue Preseason Cricket

"It was a great performance by Bermuda, but a poor showing by our batsmen. We didn't get enough," said Liam Camps at the post-match ceremony. Cricket Web Blue were humbled dramatically by Bermuda, with the home side winning a close encounter by 5 wickets with 5 balls remaining. Though the Blues would have been confident in scoring 246-8, given the carnage they inflicted with the ball just a day before, it simply was not enough against a spirited Bermuda chase.

Ben Wilshere was key in the Blue total. His 99 deserved the acclaim of a century, though he was dropped by Leverock on 73. On a pitch that so many other batsmen struggled to time the ball and threw away starts, Wilshere showed good application and a keen awareness between the wickets. He and Sean Fuller (61) added 98 for the fourth wicket after the top order came undone at 37-3. Camps came to the crease at 135-5 and could not play with the same freedom as he had the day before. Instead he was watchful and his tactic backfired, as he failed to accelerate when needed, instead out for a tame 29 from 54 balls. Fast bowler Hurdle finished the pick of the bowlers on the day, boasting 4-37.

Bermuda would have been relieved to face a Blue bowling attack lacking Matt Smith and Ryan Dunn. They showed that relief with an extremely comfortable start against pacy bowling that lacked direction. Too often the batsmen were allowed to leave balls outside offstump in the early overs, settling in nicely at the wicket before cutting loose to post 78 for the first wicket. May-Quinlan found success for Blue in removing pitcher with a good slower ball. Fuller then resumed his task of making the old ball speak of reverse swing. He did so to the effect of three wickets, but the Bermuda middle order contributed solidly in that time, whilst Clay Smith continued to play exceptionally at the top of the order.

The chase was perfectly paced, and when Janeiro Tucker faced up to Fuller for the start of the 48th over, 23 runs were needed off the final 18 balls. Tucker quickly transformed the equation, swinging consistently across the line and collecting 15 runs from the first 4 balls of the over. Fuller dismissed Lionel Cann with the 5th, but the damage was done. The Tucker brothers collected six singles off May-Quinlan's next over - the 49th - and left themselves needing just 1 run from the final over. Fuller attempted a yorker but it was pushed out by Janeiro Tucker to seal a big win for Bermuda.

Cricket Web Blue 246-8 (50 overs)
BL Wilshere 99, SE Fuller 61, LA Camps 29
K Hurdle 4-37, DCC Borden/RD Steede 2-46

Bermuda 247-5 (49.1 overs)
CJ Smith 78, OL Pitcher 37, JJ Tucker 31*
SE Fuller 3-50, JP May-Quinlan 1-40

Bermuda won by 5 wickets.
Man of the Match: JJ Tucker

Delighted. 100%.

Looks a strong side to be leading, looking to the bowlers to lead the assault on the Bermudans. :)

Power and Pace: Mamesh and Demeza dominate
Cricket Web Blue Preseason Cricket

Thamba Mamesh surged into competition for a starting spot at the top of the order come Season XII. A commanding hundred opening the batting served the right-hander great confidence in his competition for the coveted spot alongside skipper Camps. It was the brightest spot in a comfortable win for the Blues to end their Caribbean adventure.

Mamesh and Young opened up after the Blues chose to bat first and get the most out of their final game on tour. Mamesh struggled to time the ball in the early going, and by the 14th over, CW Blue had 43-0 on the board and Mamesh was on 15 from 34 balls. The following over he set out to emerge from his shell, using his feet to good effect against Dwayne Leverock in collecting two boundaries. He followed up with a towering six off Steede, and even after losing his partner for 30 in the next over, Mamesh continued to increase to tempo.

Some 36 runs came from the 31 balls faced by Mamesh after the 14th over and his next 34 took 22 balls. From there the opener slowed down to make sure of his century, which took a total of 121 balls to achieve. Goff, Cribb and Wilshere supplied cameos at the other end, and Mamesh was finally dismissed when he dragged a well-disguised slower ball from JJ Tucker onto his stumps. The Bermudans regrouped in the final overs to limit the Blues, but Matt Currie played a couple of ingenious shots in his unbeaten 16 to see the score to 260-8.

Certainly not with the dominance of two days ago, the Blues defended the total in such a manner that the result was never in much doubt. There was a lack of direction early on and penetration for the most part, but the batsmen could not get on top of the bowlers sufficiently to prevent the required rate from reaching 7-runs-per-over. Rhys Williams was particularly impressive with his wrist-spin. His 3 wickets named both half-centurions for Bermuda as well as leading batsman David Hemp. The spell left Bermuda needing 91 runs from the final 13 overs with 5 wickets in hand at its completion.

From that point Demeza took control. Pace was the real problem for the batsmen, and they got plenty of it, rattled into false shots in losing 5 wickets for 32 runs. Demeza started with a 2-wicket over - his first back - then clinically disposed of Kwame Tucker and Steede in his successive two overs. Leverock and Hurdle offered some resistance, then the latter eventually succumbed to the taunts of Demeza, hooking a sharp bouncer down the throat of long leg.

Cricket Web Blue 260-8 (50 overs)
T Mamesh 112, BJ Goff 34, PE Young 30
JJ Tucker 3-44

Bermuda 212 all out (45.5 overs)
OL Pitcher 79, JJ Tucker 50, K Hurdle 21
TJ Demeza 5-42, R Williams 3-44

Cricket Web Blue won by 48 runs.
Man of the Match: T Mamesh

4 not out and a 5 wicket bag!
Stoked! Can't believe how well my one day pre season has been.

Shame none of this effort counts towards lowering my OD bowling average hee.
If I was Wright, I would go back on my word to everyone at Blue and say I'll be trying hard for a one day spot ..... but I still believe the best way forward for Blue is playing the younger guys in the OD format.

:)

Haha, good snipe there Trav. :p

Solid performance from the side, big runs for Mamesh and wickets for Trav and Williams alongside a few others chipping in with bat and ball. Satisfying result if not as emphatic as I would've liked.

Me and Mamesh are at war! :D
