Disappointing for Bangladesh although Nafees looked pretty solid early on especially on the front foot. Mahmood's bounce and pace was too much for the top order though. Good to see the bowling made a game of it though.

I thought Saqibul Hasan batted really well, was really quite impressed with the way he played.

If Mahmood,Anderson and Freddie can be so lethal on that Barbados pitch you can just imagine how dangerous the likes of Pollock, Ntini and Co. would be on that pitch.

I wouldn't really criticise Bangers because due to the bounce, pace and carry of the Barbados pitch their batsmen were always gonna struggle.

England really need to make some spinning tracks back in their country, they are terrible at playing spin. They had no clue what Rafique and Razzak was bowling. No wonder Warne ripped through them throughout his career.

And Bangladesh need some lively tracks back home to get used to the extra bounce some tracks offer.

This also applies to the Indian's, although it's unlikely that we will be seeing green tracks in either India or Bangladesh anytime soon.

Almost 50 years back, Vijay Merchart described problems India faced in a piece in Wisden. He wrote:

Vijay Merchant: Unstoppable as they (India) are on pitches that suit their style, most of the Indian batsmen remain seriously suspect when the ball starts moving off the seam.
You might find the whole piece interesting. It is sad and representative of how little progress we have had given 50 years on, the problems remain the same.

But it is true for the South Africans and English too. Unless they make some low and slow turning tracks their young players would never learn how to play spin.

Exactly, but like I said it's unlikely to happen. Each country will have their own strengthes and weaknesses in cricket and a lot of this is because the type of pitches that are produced.

well wi, bd, ire are out. Good job england! but at least the bangers put up a fight. Didn't think they would at the time of their innings. But England needs to beat SA which is a tough ask.

In my eyes, the tounament proper finally starts tonight.

From here on in we have NZL vs SRL, NZL vs RSA, AUS vs SRL, NZL vs AUS. The battle of the TOP 4 teams left in the WC. Any of the 4 matches could go either way, what unfolds over the next week or so will sort out who faces who, and who will go into the semis as favourites.

Big game tonight, can't wait.

Big game tonight, Fulton will be hoping to keep his fine record against Sri Lanka intact. I'm hoping we get to see Ross Taylor and Mark Gillespie come back from their respective injuries and perform well tonight, especially Taylor.

Yeah can't wait. Will be a good game. NZ favourites at this stage but I have no doubts that'll change throughout the night.
