Anyways, the aussies are back to the top, congrats to them. But I hate ponting, 1st because his negative comments against the minnows and second for his commnets like this -"If Glenn could hit him in the ribs, break his ribs and have him retire that would be lovely," Ponting said.

I have no problem with what Ponting said, obviously you target a batsman's weak areas and it shouldn't matter whether their weakness is mental, technical or physical, the opposition should still aim to exploit it. I daresay this will motivate Pietersen though, he plays the pull shot well and I for one will be hoping he gets a big score against the Australians.

I mean whats wrong with that, if KP thinks he is good enough to charge down the pitch to try to thump McGrath's bowling to all parts of the ground, and if he gets hit on his ribs while trying to do so whats the big deal in that then.

And all Ponting was saying is that KP tries to do that again then he might again be hit on the ribs.
So if KP thinks he is good enough to charge McGrath then best of luck to him.

They left 3 people at home.. and we were missing some of our best....

It all evens out
To be fair they were missing more vital cogs than us. Gilchrist, Ponting, Clarke and Lee are four excellent ODI players.

I just don't like his "all that" attitude. but mainly due to his negative comments agianst the minnows.
I don't blame you, a lot of us here don't like Ponting. But there was nothing wrong with those comments about Pietersen, although I would love to hear what he has to say about the minnows now that Ireland and Bangladesh both progressed to the Super 8.

Quite a few people were critical of the 'minnows' before the start of the World Cup, Michael Holding for one. Don't think they're in the minority of the opinions re minnows in the World Cup either.

Regarding the comments on breaking ribs, I think it was either tounge in cheek or a mental tactic to get at KP, who the Australian's have been worried about since 2005. If he meant it though, that's pretty dire, although I don't think he did.

Opens the door for England and West Indies. I daresay neither of whom deserve to reach the semifinal. That said, there's time for both teams to change that perception.
Bagladesh have an outside shot as well, although it really would be something if they were able to pull it off...

Congratulations Bangladesh.

SA loss means the race for 3 of the 4 spots has , IMO , opened up again and any of the 5 teams could make the 3 semi final berths still.

SA net run rate being poor means, they have to win all three remaining games.(West Indies, NZ , England)

England need to win at least 3 of the remaining 4 with only a narrow loss in the 4th .( Australia, Bangladesh, SA, West Indies)

West Indies must win their remaining 3 .(SA, Bangladesh, England)

SL must win 2 of three . ( NZ, Australia, Ireland) but may sneak in with narrow losses to NZ and Australia and a big win over Ireland.

NZ must win 2 of their remaining 4 (Ireland, SL , Australia, SA) but may sneak in with 1 win and narrow losses in remaining 3 .
Things would have been even more interesting if WI had won against Australia. As it is now I don't really see them having much of a chance.

but wishing to break his ribs! that's awful.

I am pretty sure Ponting would have been having a bit of a joke when he said that, as opposed to seriously wishing to inflict pain on Pietersen. He was just pointing out that McGrath had hit KP there previously, and doing it again would help out the Australian cause.

I'dd doubt Ponting's comments, whilst extremely odd, were actually malicious. Obviously mind games, or a joke. He just wants to get KP thinking twice before he charges the fast bowlers again.

I finally managed to watch the highlights of England's innings vs. SL today. Wtf was with Ranjit Fernando saying the last ball went for 4. Horrible commentary.
