Bizarre, he only just got back in the side and he is complaining about the workload.
Also, just before he got back in the side, he was in the papers complaining about how traumatic it was when he had to go out and apply for a "real" job, when he thought his international career was over.

Considering he only seems to be playing as a One-day specialist these days - I dont know why he's complaining about the wrokload without playing tests.
Be a shame to see him go - Once again he's going through one of those periods where he looks like he might start to kick on.

I doubt he'll play Test cricket for New Zealand again, although with a record like his it would be a bit of a shame. I do find it odd that he's complaining about the workload though, considering he only just got back into the side. Sure, it's a World Cup so there will be more games in a shorter space of time, and he did play in the CB series which is the same sort of thing. Attention seeking if you ask me.

I actually thought he is in the form of his life, pity that he is considering to retire now. Never seen him play this good aswell, in some good form too.

McMillan is a slogger and has very limited technique; he gets by on hand-eye coordination. I'll be glad to see him go. His test record is rubbish if you take away his scores against the minnows.
Still, I'd be happy for him to win the World Cup for us.

Still, taking Bangladesh out of his record doesn't make a huge difference. Zimbabwe were still reasonably good back when he played them (1998 and 2000) so I didn't take them away from his career stats.
He has managed to score runs against the likes of Muralitharan, Caddick, Kumble and Harbhajan showing that he can do it against some pretty good bowlers, spinners especially (averages 58 against India). His preference of playing the spinners is obviously, and he has scored many runs against the Kumble, Harbhajan and Muralthiran which shows he can handle the slow bowlers.
I could bring up all the stats I like to support my claims (averages 41 in his best position at #6) for example, but I suppose it is a matter of whether you consider Zimbabwe as a decent side when he played them, because without them his stats would be reasonably ordinary.

And Saqlain too, although most of the damage he did against him was in ODI cricket.

Didn't actually check his ODI record against the spinners, although I imagine it would be equally impressive.

Yeah, surprised me a bit as well, and the reason I mentioned Astle was because I've long thought the two have a bit in common even despite the age gap. Seem similar characters, and out-of-the-blue retirements may be the final thing they have in common.
Still, though, as th says - strange to complain about the workload when you've been out the side for ages. He's always been a bit of a funny one, though, Macca. Probably best to get his retirement done before another rut sets in, really.

Not likely to happen, it wouldn't be a very smart move. With Astle gone, then I think Styris will be able to step back into the Test side pretty easily now.

Yeah guys like Fulton and/or Taylor will get more of a run in the Test team now anyway. Well in the case of Taylor he will make his Test debut actually.
Always seemed like a bit of an idiot to me. Any "form" he runs into should be regarded with suspicion as a general rule, because it's invariably followed up by a lengthy barren patch, consisting mainly of totally moronic dismissals... in the end you get the impression he didn't/doesn't give a damn.
Even though he's been playing well recently, I wouldn't be at all worried if he were removed from the team.

If we were to pick a Test team for tomorrow, I would be in favour of Taylor not making it TBH. Better candidates out there, proven at either Test or domestic level and at the moment, Taylor is neither really.
