Can't complain about 9 showing a Aust-Pak match from the 92 WC instead, however. Sohail going great. :D at Imran coming in before Inzi - I suppose he was just making his way into the team at the time... Notice the lack of boundary ropes and the distinctly thin "clunk" a reasonable piece of wood makes when you middle a ball with it, as opposed to half a tree trunk.

Pakistan by 48 runs
, I reckon.

 at that run out, by the way

Echo the sentiments about the rain though; I deliberately stayed up to watch this, it was going to be the first one I've seen from this WC, but doesn't look like that's going to happen. At least I'm on holidays soon.

LOL at Healy running out Ijaz after dropping the catch.

Funny how young Steve Waugh and Inzi look. Inzi "just" absolutely belted an attempted slower ball back over Waugh's head - one of the hardest hits I've ever seen tbh. Waugh bowling well though.

(loving retro ODI action actually...)

EDIT: How bad was the call on that Inzi run-out. Worst mistake I've ever seen an umpire make in an international. People who dislike the 3rd umpire for run-outs should be shown that - Inzi was past the stumps when Healy took the bails, never mind the crease!

I wish we got an old match, that would be more fun. In the UK we're getting Aus vs SA from St Kitts again... like we did last time there was some rain.

Who exactly is there though (better than Vaughan & Joyce)?

Bizarrely the most successful opening partnership of recent times is Strauss and Bell, but I'd suggest neither should be opening.
I know. It was a howl of anguish rather than a constructive argument.
That being said, I prefer Bell opening in these games. Quite who should replace him at 3 is another matter though. Following yesterday's painful exhibition, I wondered about Fred at 3. Obviously the Super 8's aren't the best time to experiment, but my logic amounted to the fact that we've got no chance if we don't improve 100%, so soddit. We certainly need quicker runs from the top 3 than we're getting at present, and Fred's not exactly ripping them up at 6, so what's to lose? Down the order, we'd either play Strauss at 6 against a ball that had long since stopped swinging, or bring back Dalrymple. Personally I'd go for the former, especially if Vaughan's comfortable turning his arm again.

Man, it has just been one of those crappy days for me, wanted to go and sit back and watch some cricket, but no, that ain't happening either?

The weather during this world cup has been strange, IMO.

Anyone watching the Aus vs. Pakistan 92 WC highlights on Channel 9?

Awesome watching Imran and Akram. Deano's flicks over midwicket are amazing as well, can't imagine how good he'd be nowadays in ODI cricket.

Haha nah going hatless is not on. Once the year passed 1990, you have to cover your hair when on a cricket field and not bowling.

It would be interesting who a 20-20 favours. You would think it makes it more even, but after the Bermuda match Dav Whatmore said 20-20 was the worst possible thing for Bangladesh as none of them had ever played that version.

Not many of the Australian players have extensive 20/20 experience either, so that shouldn't matter much.

Inspection in 45 minutes, play might start after that. I'll stay up that long, but if there's further delays I'm going to bed.

Out of curiosity, if this happened on the WC final day, but it was possible to squeeze say a 22 overs per side game in, would they go ahead with it, or would they use the reserve day? Do they even get a choice, or is it compulsory to play that day if the conditions are playable and more than 20 overs per side can be fit in? If so, that's horrible.

I think that if a game is reduced to say a 20 over per side match, those 20 overs should be completed on the first day, then they should try and complete the match on the reserve day. If play is delayed then only should overs be reduced. Its ridiculous IMO, and I would be really peeved off if the final was only a 22 over per side affair. Although, if there are 40 or more overs completed in each innings, I don't see the point of coming back, so the above would only apply to games which complete less than 40 overs per side on their first day.
