Super Eight

International Coach
All over, a win but a terrible performance by all accounts.

NRR messed up so we probably need to win all but one of the remaining 5 games...i.e. not going to happen.

man...those 5 overs in the england innings made all the difference if they could have contain a bit better in that period this game would have been much much better...but a good and competive game in all...Ireland proved they should be there and if haters still hate well all i can say is go to hell...

Now next game...Bangladesh vs Australia...i would just be happy if they can contain them to under 300 or if batting 1st get to 200...right now australia really looks unbeatable...

yeah...not a full strengthen one...SA looked like the team that could beat them but they lost by nearly 100 runs...who do you think are capable of beating australia int here best whilst the other team playing at its best too?

England didn't have KP either, obviously England beat them three times in a row but only two of them mattered to Australia.

england didn't have kp but australia were like half strength plus did you not see how they dismissed england in the warm up and how the dismissed every team in his tournament so far? i just hope they dont score win to toss to be able to bat to 300...but also hope they dont bowl 'em out less than 200

That's complete sloblock. They were missing Symonds and only Symonds from their full strength XI. Even now they're missing Lee.

England in comparison were missing Vaughan, KP, Anderson and Simon Jones.

Jon Lewis was out as well, not that it matters when Mahmood has something incriminating on Fletcher. Mahmood is fast becoming England's Mohammed Sami

Ireland were pretty good again last night, I thought. Definitely the most well-rounded and impressive minnow team I've seen in a WC outside of Kenya, and not too far off them either. Rankin's the best seamer outside of the test nations and could be a handy domestic cricketer in most nations, and they've got at least 3 or 4 pretty decent batsmen and a good spinner. I like Johnston's batting too, though his bowling isn't that good.

The main thing they lack is the experience and polish that your average test nation takes for granted. They just had no idea how to milk the spinners for 4 or 5 singles an over in the 20-40 over period, and that ended any chance of a successful chase. Some of that goes down to some good work from Panesar and Vaughan and good field placings, but a lot of it was just inexperience IMO. Same applies to fielding and other things like that. Given the sorts of players they'd produced recently, they should be better next WC.

that's why the minnows need to play the test nations more...that's why the minnows do gain something from playing in this tournament and outside of the tournament- experience that is need in the big games...and thats big... Ireland did good though...

Rankin's crapping up and not being able to bowl in the last overs could have been the thing that let england free...otherwise it could have been something very close...they are definitely going to be better in the next wc even if they dont make it to the second round...because they got the infrastructure

Eyes not spreadsheets
I think the current English team reminds me of Indian team of the past which was equally dependent on Sachin Tendulkar like England are on Freddie and KP.
As shown by the form batsman being neither of the ones you've mentioned.

Gee, our openers are sooooooo ****e. I know the selectors weren't helped by Tres' troubles, but surely there's better options around.
Who exactly is there though?

Bizarrely the most successful opening partnership of recent times is Strauss and Bell, but I'd suggest neither should be opening.

They have a young team as well i think, so the experience from the super 8's willc ertainly help them against the other 'minnows' when they play them between now and the next WC too.

Not Terrible
I can quite easily see Rafiq, Mortaza and Razzak taking a bunch of wickets tonight. To bad Australia will take just as many if not more.
All three of them have been striking at around 20.
