Super Eight

They (NZ if they beat Ireland & bang) won't be safe realistically, let alone mathetmatically.
They'd have 8 points, so I'd have thought they'd be as near to safe as dammit. I suppose its possible that 3 teams could have 8 points, but I can't quite get my head round that right now.

Oh well, The Windy dream seems to remain just that.
Windies haven't got any bowling fire-power whatsoever. It's a crying shame considering their history. The decision to leave Taylor out for a batsman who then batted at 8 was baffling/idiotic

They actually have some pretty damn good ODI bowlers IMO - they just aren't picking them.

England v/s Ireland

I am not too keen to watch this game ( so i am taking today as an off-day in the WC, TBH).

If Ireland and Bangladesh don't step-up a level in the Super 8's we would be having some very boring and one-sided games in the upcoming days, which would dampen the mood of the WC (atleast for me).

Joyce v/s Ireland would be an interesting clash tough.

I've always thought Bradshaw is one of the most under-rated ODI bowlers in the world, and I thought at the start of the tournament that he should have played instead of Powell...I was proven to be a tad off the mark with that one.

Some classic cricket writing here from Andrew Miller.

"Pietersen and Flintoff are of such fundamental importance to England's hopes in this tournament, they are being used belatedly and without subtlety, much as a nervous poker cheat might use his ace up the sleeve"

C'mon England! Bout time you showed us something in this tournament, you pasty bastards!

The West Indian odi bowling should be :-

1.D.Powell
2.I.Bradshaw
3.C.Collymore
4.D.Bravo
5.D.Mohammed

Not off the mark at all Ed, surely he would have been a better option than having to rely on 2 overrated, and 1 underperforming allrounder to bowl 30 overs

I think the current English team reminds me of Indian team of the past which was equally dependent on Sachin Tendulkar like England are on Freddie and KP.

Mohammed? Un-neccessary IMO when Gayle and Samules exist.

1. Powell
2. Bradshaw
3. Collymore
4. Taylor or Smith
5. A combination of Bravo, Samules and Gayle

IMO.

True, but Powell has been a lot better than I thought he was this tournament. Bradshaw should be playing in place of someone else instead.

You'd better make that Colly & KP. Fred's record as a oneday batsman is nowhere near what some would have you believe.

btw does anyone know exactly what Andrew Miller meant in the piece that Fiery quoted? I've read it twice and I'm still none the wiser.

Jerome Taylor has been underperforming in recent times, we all know he has huge potential but he just hasn't been firing. Corey Collymore is one of the more accurate bowlers in the West Indies so I think he should still be in the side.

Good Win for the Black Caps. They are now pretty much secure of making the Semis as long as they beat 1 of Australia, South Africa or Sri Lanka.

Pretty sorry for the host nation West Indies. Their chances of making the Semis hinges on their beating SL. (which is even more disastrous for me as a Sri Lankan. )

Sunday's game will be make or break for both teams !! The winner may eke out the 4th quarter final spot and the loser will almost certainly finish outside the top 4.

England win the toss and bat.

Unfortunately England are still a bowler light, because Duncan Fletcher is the person on the planet who thinks Mahmood deserves a spot in the XI.

Elaborate Prince
They're only picking two genuine bowlers a game at the moment. If they actually picked their best four bowlers for every match, they'd have a really good bowling team. Their problem is the extreme inconsistency of several of their batsmen, and hence their sometimes idiotic tendancy to pick bowlers based on their batting or just stack the side with the best 9 batsmen they have.

Baffling to the mind to suggest why Mahmood is playing ahead of either Lewis or Plunkett. Really would have thought it was a two horse race...
