Super Eight

Wow, so much has happened this WC, feeling sad for SL...
It won't be long before the follow India out of this World Cup, TBH.

They are struggling against quality teams like SA. They now will struggle thru Super 8 and given they are dead cert to lose to the Aussies, any loss in the next 3 games against West Indies, England and NZ would mean , SL's World cup comes to an end right there..:)

Well the only thing i am worried about at the moment is can the sri lankan batsman fire at crucial matches like this? The matches coming ahead against Australia, NZ and if they qualify for the semi-finals are all pressure situations and their batsman need to somehow handle the nerves, i am not really worried about their bowling since they defended modest total against the indians and below-par today, BUT their batsman are a bit of a worry.
The answer to your question (as a Sri Lankan) IMO is No... as it has been seen quite clearly today...

Nope, Arnold may need to go ...despite his 50 ... he has never been a match winner ...he gets a 40 or 50 when there are others with him , but is incapable of building from thereon like today...when he should've stayed till the end to add the extra 20 runs -that may have made the difference ... he holes out... Atapattu adds stability at the top and allows Chamara Silva to come in at 6 to give some lower middle order impetus (which is lacking in the SL batting performances)...
i dont get this Atapattu is even slower than Arnold !!

Atapattu has yet to play at the World Cup, and lack of match exposure has contributed to his form struggling a bit, but IMO he is more dependable than Arnold and can come in at 3 and stay put playing a long innings and that way others can bat around him , a la Kallis ...

Just watched the replay of the South Africa v Sri Lanka match now, incredible ending. Wish I stayed up tbh.

I've never felt like such a softy then when I went to sleep at the half-way mark of last night's game, woke up and read about the finish.

me too.

Anyways, wonder if playing Australia has helped Windies get their games up a notch or so and also whether their familiarity with this new ground will help them today...

This is the most nervous I have felt so far in the tournament. I'm sure my nerves will get me up all night to watch the whole match, hopefully it doesn't rain!

I think the WI are at a disadvantage with the 3 days play and the enormous pressure on them. If they loose this match then they need to win 3 out of 4 of their next matches to have a chance of making the semis. That's 2 out of 3 against non-Bangladeshi sides - its pushing it. Can the Windies handle the pressure?

Hoping that Maling Heroics will be replayed by Bond in today's match! ..Want Bond to do such heroics before he retires.

Fingers crossed

Wow Malinga

I was thinking to myself as he bowled to Graeme Smith (I flicked off after he got his 50) in the tiny bit I saw this morning, that he has to be one of the most unplayable bowlers he is bowling well.

We've seen some crazy stuff though, Australia getting 300+ in all four of it's WC games, Gibbs hitting 6 sixes, Ireland beating Pakistan (well maybe not depending on the rumours), Bangladesh defeating India, and this.

IMO, Guys like Malinga (with his slingy action and pace) and Tait(he is also a bit slingy but more round-arm in his action with his pace) can be really dangerous with their reverse swing, since the pitches in the Caribbean are abrasive so reverse is always gonna take place as ball gets old, reverse swing is a big asset for any bowler to have but when you bowl them at the pace of Tait and Malinga its mighty tough to even survive let alone score.

I expect Windies to win today's game because they know if they don't win their chances to qualify any further in this tournament would be seriously effected.
