No great loss with Tuffey heading back home.

What's with all the Lou Vincent bashing? Since his return in the 2005/05 season, he's averaged almost 39. It's the results, people, not how you get there.

If Gillespie doesn't recover soon he will also be sent home. Who would replace him?

Harry?

Not many other options really, unless they go for a young uncapped player like Aldridge or Scott.

I doubt they'd pick Scott or Aldridge for the business end of a World Cup. Chris Martin at least has played international cricket for awhile now to know what will be expected of him. I suppose if Gillespie went home his replacement would be Andre Adams.

Fast bowling is something NZ Cricket will really need to work on post World Cup. The batting is coming along very nicely but while I wouldn't call the bowling dire, it really needs to be addressed.

Perhaps it might come down the stage where we can pick a replacement based on his fielding ability and use him as a specialist fielder.

At this stage I think they'll only be swapping fast bowler for fast bowler unless they realise they made a bad mistake and maybe Gillespie will be swapped for someone like Harris or Hamish Marshall instead of Adams.

Very true, we've seen how much we miss Kyle Mills.

I worry that our bowling is only going to be good enough to get us to the Semi's. If we had Kyle Mills there, our bowling really does strengthen up.

And in India?

Also, anyone with half a brain knew that Panesar was not crap. Fletcher just had it in his head that he was going to play Giles, and wasn't going to change for anyone. Panesar was never in his first team the game beforehand.

EDIT: Two silly wickets fall as NZ just start playing shots left right and center.
IIRC, Panesar played mainly because Harmison was injured, which meant Mahmood could come in and bat #8. With Harmison returning from injury for the first test, DF saw fit to strengthen the batting and as such Giles also returned. So tbf it was basically the first choice side, given the available players.

Anyways, thoughts on the game ahead people? Tis a shame that

a-I am in work
b-Aus V SA clashes with our game
c-our game clashes with the national football team

Nonetheless, I expect a thoroughly convincing victory today. We need to kickstart our campaign before the super 8 - that's assuming we qualify.

Any ideas on how we're lining up?

Thoughts on the game ahead, eh? England v Kenya-well England should win and if they don't, we can all laugh at them.

Anywhoo, I haven't kept in touch with the NZ domestic scene much, as I'm a Kiwi now living in Aus, but regarding Chris Martin replacing Daryll Tuffey, he's probably an OK choice considering the options. For mine, firstly you'd have to pick someone with at least a bit of national experience so how about...

1) Chris Harris-not replacing Tuffey for the same role, and although we don't really need another all-rounder, good for the sake of nostalgia, plus I've heard at his age he's still in form
2) Iain O'Brien
3) Andre Adams-He'd be great I'm not sure about his situation, but isn't he serving some sort of ban?
4) and here's a question from and uninformed fan (me)-where's IAN BUTLER? I don't know whether he's out of form or injured or something, but last time I remembered he was being touted as the next Shane Bond

Ian Butler had a really bad injury, for quite some time he played for the Northern 2nd XI as a batsman and part-time slow bowler. He bowled at reasonable pace at times when I saw him in the Twenty20 this season though so he could be on the way back, but he's still a long way off being fit for internationals at the moment.

Raghav

International Vice-Captain
I would really go for Harris replacing Tuffey. His type of bowwling really suits in WI. And he is quite handy bat. I doubt that their main concen if any of three present fast bowlers get injured. That might have prompted to take Martin in..

Its really sad to see that, Previously we had batting problems and perfect in bowling.....and now batting is promising but bowling is little bit wayward...

Go please save us!

Some less-than-excellent news, I'm afraid. We're in for a delayed start due to heavy, overnight, unseasonal, unCaribbean rain. It's all very moist out there, so we'll have news of that - and a whole lot more - very shortly. Apologies for that last sentence; I sounded like a cheesy radio DJ. Meanwhile, read up on the ground's history.
