I agree with that. And contrary to how it may seem to others here at CW, I really don't think Ponting is bad against spin. Just that he has had a problem in Indian conditions. As a matter of fact, before Martyn became a regular, he was my second favourite Aussie batsman. I was one of the few who cheered his six in Chennai during his horror tour in 2001 off Harbhajan. To clarify, I agree that Tendulkar is better than Ponting - outside of those two I think better than both is Lara. However, the quick generalisations of the periods, the players and those they faced is bothersome. Whilst many will agree that this decade the runs were a bit easier in getting than those in the last, quality batting will always be quality batting. I tend to think that if Ponting had this form in the 90's, he would be doing very very well. How well, well that's speculative, and to each his own.
To be honest, Kazo, the amount of travelling involved between these ODIs, and also the frenetic life style of a cricket star in INdia, should be taken into account. It is not like these guys get much time off. But for his injury lay offs, which mostly have been post 2000, Sachin won't have gotten too much time off.I am biased, but this isn't about the green and gold as it is about some people's misgivings.
Tendulkar has had a tough career, but that isn't an excuse really. You insult a player of his stature with that reasoning - especially when the guy comes out himself saying he loves the sport; loves to train; loves to play.
My God, Sachin looks hideous in a tie.
Definetly, his 98 (i think it was 98, correct me if i'm wrong though please) tour of Sri Lanka is proof of it. Whilst the majority of the Australia batting Struggled against Murali, Ponting was the only batsmen during the whole tour who consistently was either in a tense struggle with Murali, or got the better of him.I agree with that. I'll lay odds that that first 5 never played together, Caddick at 7?!Disagree. Malcolm-Fraser-Gough-Caddick-Tufnell are about even-par with Flintoff-Harmison-Jones-Giles-Hoggard.
I disagree - he must lose points for his lack of buttons!Lara> Tendulkar=Ponting in blazers
Ponting is about 5'10. which is about 10 inches taller than Sachin who is about 5ft. Lara is also about 5'8 which is 8 inches taller than Sachin. My God, Sachin looks hideous in a tie.
Ponting > Lara > Sachin in ties. Gelman's been smoking the pipe if he thinks otherwise.
PS. All three are short. I knew Sachin and Lara were short, but I somehow thought Ponting was a little taller.
Tendulkar is around 5'5, I think.Ponting is about 5'10. which is about 10 inches taller than Sachin who is about 5ft. Lara is also about 5'8 which is 8 inches taller than Sachin.
Tendi is definitely standing on something in that photograph.
No, he is 5.05ft. LOLTendulkar is around 5'5, I think.
Whatever that might say, there isn't a chance that he is 5 foot.
This documentary (the 3 parts below) actually goes to lengths to show why his height assists his batting. I think it says 5'4.Whatever that might say, there isn't a chance that he is 5 foot.
Yeah I was thinking that, I watched that, thought it said 5ft, posted then had to edit it on 2nd watch. 162cm I think it said.5'4 is belivable. I'd be extremely surprised if he was 5'0.
Bingo.Social i'd imagine
