I have already shown interest towards a team more than a week ago through email. Do I have to respond to these emails sent today?

I'm seeing a few flaws with the rookie signing process. With such a short time to get into contact with a player and sign them and have them confirm their signing in the thread

A team has 36 hours between posting a contract and the contract being confirmed. And you'd figure the team would be in contact with the player before posting a contract. Therefore 36 hours should be more than enough time to fetch agreement from the player.

I prefer the old system where a player signs in and gets given a team whether they like it or not - that's the proper advantage that I would expect from having first pick. Without it, this will become a bit of a lottery.

This will come into play for players who sign up during the season.

The draft process is, of course, experimental. Let's see how it goes for a round at least. The new season won't start for another month at least anyway.

What about we just do a draft "A League for the Ages" style. Rank the rookies in order of whom we want from first to last, and draft it that way. Obviously, it's up to the team's captains etc. to take potential activity into account.

Not yet. Needing a little bit of extra info from Liam before we contact another rookie. Hopefully we'll have the first signing completed by the end of play today, but you never know right now. I'm fairly confident it'll happen, though...
