Australia vs South Africa on that little ground in St.Kitts is shaping up to be one of the great World Cup clashes ever.

Looking at the making up of the Australian team for the remainder of the tournament, i hear Blewett make an interesting suggestion when asked about who should be replaced when Symonds returns, he suggested a straight swap with Watson & keeping Hodge. Even though i don't agree the batting woukd have a stronger look if that is done, but then again Watson does give added depth to the side. It will be interesting to see which way the selectors go.

Gutted I missed this game and the highlights, especially with RTD playing amazingly, or so I hear. Any youtube of Gibbs 6 6's?

Ahem, let's try and keep the thread on topic without offending too many people. :p

I think its going to be really tough to decide whom to drop from the Aussie playing XI to make room for Symo, dropping Watson atm would be a stupid thing to do but if he doesn't deliver the goods mainly with the ball [since i can't see him impacting a game too much batting at no.7] then he should be dropped during the Super 8's.

So Hodgey would probably be the unlucky man to miss out.

I think Watson is the bloke that has to go, his bowling can be covered with Symonds, Clarke and Hodge and Hodge is the better batsman.

Hodge has to be the one to go. Clarke needs some runs, though.

Watson won't go. Relying on Symonds for 10 overs has been problematic in the past and they won't be keen on doing it again, especially with him coming off an injury. Symonds and Watson sharing 10 is a good situation to be in, though.

I'd be tempted to play him - you'd rather test him, and potentially lose him, in a game against the Netherlands where, with all due respect, its not likely to make any difference, than go into a match against the Saffies or in the Super 8 with an injury question mark over his head. Honestly, he probably wouldn't have to bat, he could role the arm over for a couple of overs, have some time on the field and hopefully shake any nerves that are there. If the arm is fine, then he'll be better for the run, if its not, better to find out now so we can take 11 fit players into the crunch games coming up.

Frankly, I'd wait until the Super 8s. Even with what has happened recently in other groups, I don't think there is any chance of Australia not making it.

Hell, depending on how the first couple matches in the super 8s go, maybe rest him all the way until the end of that stage, in time for the semi finals (give him maybe 1 game before semi-finals to warm him up, unless Aussies face must-win games before then). Though not guaranteed, it's really hard to argue that they will miss the semis, with or without him.
