Matteh you are right. Dawson was so unnoticed in that final despite his exceptional performance.

But to say that Wilkinson only set the WC alight because he kicked well is ridiculous. I suggest you rewatch the final.

During the build-up to the final, I was reading Aussie newspapers over the internet (cos they are ridiculously provokative and make me laugh) and one actually have had a picture of JW and a picture of the Australian rugby logo, suggesting that England were a one man team.

Whilst the forwards were phenomenal I think it is fair to say that during that WC, Wilkinson was the best player in the world. Hell! Every commentator agreed with me!

Come on Kiwis, let's hear it...

(Oh and by the way... if Pietersen scores a 100 in our opener against NZ in a few days then he is the best bat in the world too :P)

Johnson led from the front in that Final. He was imperious. Imperious! Supreme in the line-out, a taskmaster with the pack. He even set up the winning drop goal. England won that Final because of their scrum and line-out. I doubt they would've won without Johnson to be honest.

Dawson basically set up the winning drop goal by managing to dart forward about 20 yards with the ball, he massively increased the odds of that ball going through.

Dawson threw a nice dummy, but to be fair the whole movement was important from the line-out win to Johnson setting up the ruck again. Props to Matt Rogers, too, for his ****ty, ****ty clearance kick.

Hmm I turned over at the start of the second half, Italy with a penalty right near Ireland's line 12-20 down, look up twenty minutes later and Ireland are winning 46-12...

Do Italy have money on Ireland winning the Six Nations or something?

Big news is Andy Goode's recall at fly-half after over two years on the sidelines. His presence suggests a rather more pragmatic approach after our largely unsuccessful attempts at expansive rugby over the last few years. Steffon Armitage (joining elder bro Delon) and Ben Foden stand to make their first starts for England. Steffon's a specialist seven of the type we've really missed since Neil Back killed his last ball, so will be interesting to see if he can translate his fine domestic form to the international scene. Foden's an elusive runner who can play full-back or scrum-half with equal facility, so expect him to be a feature on our bench for a while to come.

Not too optimistic for us. We'll beat Italy and Scotland at home, probably France too, but I fear for us in Ireland and Wales.

Ireland are my tip to pull it off this year. Excellent value at 11/2 for a triple crown too. Wales and ourselves have to go over the water this year and yer Micks have an excellent record at Murrayfield too.

Interesting. His club team has been utterly below the boat, IIRC.
