Outstanding performance from Styris today, particularly as his place in the side was doubtful before today
Yet again making the middle order battle fiercer.

Fulton/Macca/Styris have all put there hands up in recent times. Who do you leave out?

Do you go for all of them? The batting line-up would be the longest in world cricket.

Styris' performance with the ball was encouraging so maybe thats the way to go

Perhaps that's not a silly idea. McMillan wasn't even required to bowl today either

I'm off now. Congrats to NZ, who have utterly outclassed England in all departments. Looks like only one of these sides has given the game any thought since the Aus triangular tournament and England, yet again, seem to be suffering from quite staggering complacency judging by the brainless batting and lack of any sort of plan with the ball. Can't say I fancy another six doses of this pile of ****e in the super 8's, but presumably that's what we'll get.
I don't think NZ "utterly outclassed England in all departments". They got the significant benefit of conditions, which has probably made it an easy win for NZ. Watch Vaughan trying to pull the ball in the first innings. Compare it with Styris. Styris got a few boundaries (nice one Jimmy) and Vaughan got a few mis-hits and a ball onto the stumps.

It's a shame the toss should play a part in the game as it happened a lot in the last World Cup with day-nighters, but it clearly has effected this match.

NZ would have probably played the early conditions better than England anyway, but we'll never know now. You can't bowl sides out on pitches like this and England couldn't force the pace, so where were England going to claw the difference back?

Would you leave Patel out?
Yes.

I think, from what we have seen so far, the likes of Styris/McMillan will have more of an effect on these decks than the spinners.

And if they are gonna play Patel.....
No Franklin maybe. Although he has shown he can pick up wickets. Even if he can be a bit expensive

No 100 for Styris possible now

EDIT: Are you ever gonna give credit to the opposition?

No, sorry, can't resist actually.

Vaughan and Styris' prior records don't suggest any remotely plausible explanation for that, do they?

I mean, Styris doesn't average in the mid-30s for the last 5 years, and Vaughan doesn't have an average (which has almost never changed over his career) in the low 20s, does he?

Ridiculous.

Can't ask for a much better start to the campaign from NZ. Everyone bar Vincent and Taylor played well. Both of those guys will now have 2 chances to get some runs against Kenya and Canada. Great stuff from Styris, Bond Oram and Styris in particular.

Fair play to NZ, pretty intelligent cricket towards the end, and they deserved to win quite easily.

TBH, this WC needs the SA-Aus game as soon as possible as (apart from Zim/Ire) the games have been pretty dull as a spectacle.
