So you think he has a chance of stopping a powerful sweep standing up?
Yep, seen it happen from top level keepers doing that, and keepers taking top edges as catches down the legside from that level of anticipation.

Was thrilled he did it, especially as they were not powerful sweep shots, rather paddles around the corner

Agree with Kev.

Great stuff from Nixon - you've got to take a guess in situations like that - just so happens he guessed wrong in this instance.

Far more sweeps are hit than missed, TBH.

Well if he keeps on doing that, doesn't it open the way for batsmen to start mock sweeping, in order to pick up byes?

If Oram and Styris can get 50+ partnership then i think its game on.

Atm its 50/50. A wicket now could really swing it Englands way

Whoopie Doo! You'd expect him to hit those paddles and as a calculated risk it was definately worth giving up 3 runs (1 a leg bye BTW that could have gone through anyway) for the chance of a top edge catch, stopping 2 sweep shots going fine and putting doubt in the batsmans mind. It is a strategy a lot of keepers would do if they could.

To repeat myself, excellent keeping

To deliberately miss a pre-meditated sweep is an extremely dangerous tactic.
So is meditated keeping. The keepers job is to save byes. Luckily for Nixon, Collingwood tidied up for him otherwise they would have cost more runs

Not if its a left arm orthodox. And the batsmen wouldn't even necessarily have to play at the ball. Nixon departed very early into the shot.

WTF? That is one part of a detailed job description that fits within a team framework.

Talk about an oversimplification.

I've got to side with Fiery on this one. It would be extremely difficult for a keeper to stop a well timed sweep from that range, and it opens the way to concede byes.

But anyway... back to the cricket.
