Having Afridi as one of the best bowlers in an attack is plain proof that the attack is dire, without Asif and Akhtar.
I think that comment alone seals the argument!

However while pretty poor Pakistan could use the pitches to their advantage with a host of spin bowling.

The warm ups have shown the pitches to be very slow and low bounce so take the pace off the ball and make the batsman earn the runs, ok so they may not be best bowlers in the world but they do have some pretty handy bowlers (handy as in handy part-timers) in Shoaib Malik & Mohammad Hafeez + The two frontline bowlers in Afridi & Danish Kaneria.

Mind you if the batsman fire, does it matter how badly they bowl

Sami has a better Avg than front line bowlers like Collymore and Sreesanth...he never really got a consistent run lately because Asif and Akhtar kept keep coming in and out.
And yet Collymore is so clearly a better bowler, it's hardly funny. More accurate, more economical. Collymore has never been a strike bowler, but he's a better one-day bowler than Sami is right now and likely better than he will ever be.

Sreesanth is a poor OD bowler. I don't see how it benefits your argument to compare Sami to him.

And did you ever consider that the reason Sami has not gotten a consistent run of late is because he's been consistently rubbish when he has played? How can you argue with such a deplorable record over his past 27 matches? That's a long time to be that poor.

I would say right now its fair to say that Pakistan has the worst attack, however i won't be surprised if their bowling attack in the WC fares better than 2-3 other major teams.

I think Afridi is a very under-rated bowler, he is someone who i think will do well, Gul is another one that should do well.Anjum is fairly decent bowler, while Hafeez is also an ok bowler. I would like to see as to how Danish fares in WC, on surfaces that will assists spinners. For Pakistan to do well, atleast two of its bowlers need to do really well.

:
Reminds me of Indian bowlers of '83 WC, Binny, Lal, Amarnath were all part time/non specialist bowler who did very well in that WC for India.Pakistan would be hopeing the same from its 4 spinners.

Hafeez is a much better bowler than Anjum. And Anjum is only a decent bowler if your definition is someone who does not take wickets and typically goes for more than 4.5 an over.

well actually i was gonna thread about the most under rated bowling side in the world cup but for that i had to prove if pakistan is actually under rated, so far this poll has served my purpose but i will wait for it to become a decent sample before i answer your questions
16 out of 26 is fair enough :)

Depends on conditions - normally it would be Pakistan but if the wickets are slow and low where does that leave SA relying on Robin "don't call me Kevin" Peterson and Grahame Smith for spin? And Australia would be in trouble - Hogg got hammered in NZ and thet would need Symonds to be fit.

SA's seamers are still more than capable of being quality on slow, low wickets, especially Pollock.

NZ's attack will suit this World Cup. NZ are winning matches yet we have the worst death bowling record of all the top nations. So how much better would NZ get if they managed to dramatically improve their death bowling?

Hope you're not basing that comment on the back of warm-up games.
Of course not, and me and a couple of other people such as adharcric have explained numerous times why this Indian bowling attack is not the worst out of the top 8 at the moment in this World Cup, and therefore I won't waste my time again explaining.

Actually it was you, last time, who we were explaining to... If i remember correctly.

Lol at all those who said India have the worst attack! 8-)
Why whats so funny?? Its a toss up between India and Sri Lanka.

We all know that India plays only 4 bowlers, and makes up the remaining 10 overs between Yuvraj, Tendulkar and Sehwag. India can't play both Kumble and Harbhajan in a game(its weakens their batting).
And they will have to choose between Patel and Pathan, based on current form, I feel its going to be Patel. So Basically its Zaheer, Munaf, Harbhajan and Sreesanth.

Being a bowler short is a weak attack to start with.

Still feel like laughing??

India's only saving grace is that Munaf and Sreesanth have more experience and success(lately) that the Sri Lankan attack(except Murali and Vaas).

Yes I still feel like laughing, because Zaheer and Munaf are in the form of their life. We got two good spin options to choose from Bhajji and Kumble. If we don't play the fifth bowler, the likes of Tendulkar and Sehwag do a great job most of the time.

And aren't ya forgetting someone...

*cough*Agarkar*cough*

... who has also bowled quite good for the past couple of years, his economy rate has gone down from above 5 over the years, which shows he has been quite good. Not to mention he was our best bowler in the ODI series last year against WI.

Still feel like posting a reply? I am guessing not...

It'll depend on the pitches imho, If they are on the slow side than SA could be in big trouble, besides pollock, most of their bowlers are going to be pretty ineffective.

Here is my reply.

If this is the best form Munaf and Zaheer have to show then I'm afraid that India has to pack their bags and leave after the second round. It took a Nehra bowling out of his skin to get them thru to the latter rounds in the previous world-cup. Lets see what Zaheer does this time when he is thrashed by the likes of Ponting and Co.

India may have Bhajji & Kumble but can only play one of them, so you only get to choose one.

I did not forget about Agarkar, but I doubt if he is going to be used for anything else besides net practise and probably play the odd minnows game so that an injured Zaheer/Pathan/Patel could have a day off.

The ODI series in WI that you mention was lost by India 1-4. Do you still want to talk about it?

Go cough some more and clear out your throat for your next reply.
