He's bad, but Rigor gets hysterical sometimes - so appalling it's tragic.Ian Smith is the WORST. ffs.
Almost everything Smith says is wrong. And the worst thing is, he really, really thinks he's right. Him and Rigor are 2 commentators who have absolutely no clue about the game yet are very opinionated- a dire combination.Oh, come on! How're Simon Doull and dear old Rigor better than him?
Though TBF I missed Grant Nisbett on my first post. Not the worst IMO.
Parthiv Patel kept quite decently in India's tour to NZL, if he said it during that tour then he was wrong again.Well I heard Smith say Parthiv Patel was awful once...
Yeah, Parthiv started out as an excellent 'keeper but as his batting improved, his 'keeping went down the toilet.Parthiv Patel kept quite decently in India's tour to NZL, if he said it during that tour then he was wrong again.
I think Mark Richardson and Ian Smith are probably the two best commentators in NZ. To suggest they don't know anything about the game is just ridiculous. You think at 21 you know more than both those guys don't you, th?Almost everything Smith says is wrong. And the worst thing is, he really, really thinks he's right. As I recall it was sometime in late 2003... he was actually wholly complimentary when Patel played as a 17-year-old over here in the summer of 2002. There was a pretty cute, all-in-all, piece of the two of them having a chat in the grass after Patel's debut.Parthiv Patel kept quite decently in India's tour to NZL, if he said it during that tour then he was wrong again.

AhaI don't think it Fiery, I know it.
So why haven't we got cricket-loving professors commentating then, oh wise and humble one?Think about it
(a) They're sportsmen. They're stupid and uneducated. I'm intelligent and educated. I'm smarter.
(b) They've played international cricket. They've had to focus very closely on their own specific game, strengths and weaknesses. I've been able to observe dispassionately from the outside. Their intense experiences actually playing the game make them biased. I've been able to observe and form more logical opinions. I'm therefore able to be more objective.
No-brainer imo
Kerry. So why haven't we got cricket-loving professors commentating then, oh wise and humble one?
We should. But having ex-cricketers appeals to the general public who have a similarly low cricketing intellect. Same reason why **** music tops the charts, **** books top the bestsellers lists, et al.So why haven't we got cricket-loving professors commentating then, oh wise and humble one?
That's right about music and books but I doubt whether many people would want to listen to some boffin with limited social skills talk about cricket. I for one would rather listen to guys who have been there/done that in the game (with the odd exception like Ian Healy). To suggest all commentators (and as you've said previously, all NZ journalists) are morons, is a bit on the pretentious side there fella. We should. But having ex-cricketers appeals to the general public who have a similarly low cricketing intellect. Same reason why **** music tops the charts, **** books top the bestsellers lists, et al.
People like Kerry Packer, marketers and the people who run the TV companies have obviously decided that to maximise ratings it's best to have ex-players commentating. Can you think of any non-ex-cricketers in NZ you would rather have calling the game in NZ? I can't.Who said anything about boffins with no social skills. The commentators, in a perfect world, would also be entertaining and enthusiastic, but they'd also have an intelligent and well-rounded perspective on things. I don't know why on earth you would want to listen to ex-internationals because, as a rule, there's absolutely no reason why they would be able to fulfill any of those criteria. Indeed, there are perfectly obvious reasons why they probably wouldn't.
