Wasn't watching at that stage of the game, nor was I referring to that wicket. Watson consistently celebrates like he scaled Everest by hopping, each time he snags a pole.
Watson, Lee and Shoaib all make bell-ends of themselves.
EDIT: and the previous statement was in reference to the good players like Flintoff and Warne. They also tend to do it when they "get someone out" rather than them getting themselves out, as opposed to people like Lee and Watson who've watched too much Lleyton Hewitt.

Anyone remember Brett Lee bowling Ganguly with India having 700 runs on the board in a test back in 03/04, yet he did a ridiculous chainsaw celebration. Funnily enough, no other Australian player cared.
Having Brett Lee as proof that other bowlers celebrate like an idiot after getting spanked isn't a good argument.

Yeah that's what it comes down to. If Watson bowls an inswinging yorker which hits the base of middle stump, he can do what he likes, but when the batsman skies a ball to mid on with a stupid shot because they are chasing 340+, don't act as if you just earnt a wicket.
There's building pressure and taking a wicket off a batsman's bad shot, and then there's getting lucky because the opposition have to comtinue hitting due to their target score, and one of the six shots you were smashed for happen to land in a fielder's hands.

But its not a storm, and there's no tea cup in sight, its just one of various reasons why countless people are not a fan of Watson as a bloke, irrelevant of what they think of his cricketing abilities.
It seems like the silly criticism laid at Watson by very few here on the board (with reference to his actual talent) has resulted in his fan club defending him no matter what the criticism is, when people have thought this about him since 2003 onwards.

bit hard to deliver when he's injured. But you're right though, if he has an injury free couple of seasons, he really does need to turn it on, like he did for the most part in 2006. However, he really does need to build upon his good year last year, and really stamp his name into the starting XI of the ODI team, and possibly the test team if he's given that oppurtunity.

He's been better in that regard in the last year or so. He's certainly been worth his place, rather than being picked on potential.
He needs to keep improving while he's fit, though. Hopefully he can get through this year without a major injury and play some tests next summer. It's difficult to judge where he's at until he gets the chance to do that.

Drop Gilchrist IMO, he's been underperforming with the bat. Pick Andrew McLeod instead.

England should drop Nixon for Lewis IMO. Sure Nixon can keep, but he's crap and obviously team balance doesn't matter, so they should pick Jon Lewis.

Gah... almost topped myself due to the stupidity of the people who answered to yesterday's sports poll in the courier mail, and serveral previous polls in recent weeks in regards to him. Yesterday The Poll asked the question "Should Shane Watson Open"
28% voted yes, 72% no. Some of the 'no' comments included (for yesterday, and past Watto poll's).
"Shane Watson has no talent whatsoever and the only thing he should open is the team bus door"
"Shane Watson isn't fit to tie Hayden or Gilly's shoelaces"
"Shane Watson should be anywhere near the team"
"Shane Watson should be replaced by Stuart Clark"
"Shane Watson is a big part in why we lost the Tri-Series"
"Shane Watson should never player for Australia again"
ffs it's enough to drive a man crazy when you get bogans like those who wrote the above comments acting as if they know all about cricket when obviously they've got absolutely no idea about anything to do with the great game. I'm almost tempted to write a letter to the editor at this stage because it's pathetic that such ignoramus' are getting the spotlight and bagging out a player who is not only quite obviously better looking and has far more cricket talent in his left big toe-nail than any of them do in their entire body, but has the potential to be that allrounder that we're so desperately looking for.

Do people on here (EWS, Fuller, Clapo etc) really believe he is a better option opening than Hayden and Gilchrist? I can buy the fact he should be batting above 7 (4,5 etc) but opening ahead of those guys is Australian suicide.
