Though you could argue that if it was good for 30,000 people then it was relatively good for cricket?
Haha I suppose. Although my argument is that it's bad for bowlers and it can't be good for cricket if such a major part of the game is marginalised. Many ODI bowlers play Tests as well, and imo if scores keep getting bigger and bigger, and pitches are as flat as we've seen, many bowlers could almost forget the skills they need to succeed in the longer form of the game because they have to concentrate solely on keeping runs down in ODIs.

The Aussies bowled very well in the first 10 overs but then yet again they totally lost the plot.

Though one thing that has been missed is that Australia batted 1st every time in this series. I would have liked to have seen 1 game where it was reversed, im still not sure whether NZ can defend a total convincingly.

It wasn't well explained but I was very suprise that McCullum didn't get his S/R up to, or over 100 considering how many runs they had to chase. In the end it didn't matter, because we won and he contributed greatly in pushing up other people's S/R through ones and twos.

Haha geez you're defensive.
On the contrary ...I'm ectastic !! I'm a kiwi !

I would like you to explain to me how Franklin conceded just 4.3 an over from his 10 and Bracken around 5s if it was that impossible for bowlers.

The fact remains, Aust were always going to get a huge score if they batted first today IMO, not just because of the pitch, but mainly due to such a weak NZ bowling attack without Bond, Vettori, Oram and Mills and including Tuffey. Sure the pitch was obviously flat, but I doubt if both sides had their strongest bowling attacks on show that it would have been quite such high scoring.

Also, does a 300+ score necessarily mean the pitch is too flat ?? I noted some poster mentioned they would prefer a close 220 game and i accept that comes down to opinion and preference, but IMO I just find it bizarre that the pitch could be criticised after the last 2 games. I suppose I could except criticism about the Wellington deck when Aust were rolled for 148, but not the last 2 games.

I've no respect for anyone who worships Shane Watson as a personality. Hopefully Smith only supports him as a cricketer which is understandable.
Haha, I wouldn't say I respect him as a personality, but I do quite like watching him play. He's one of the most emotional cricketers I've ever seen, and he's always good for a laugh. Acts like a total dick sometimes, but I don't actually find his conduct offensive or anything, it's just silly.

Big admirer of him as a cricketer, obviously.

Just 1 or 2 more performances like the last 3 against Aus would be all it took to claim parity imo
If they win 2 WC's in a row and dominate international OD cricket for 6-10 years they'd be on par.

Exaggerrating, yes. Smith is the only person on here that I truly detest.
That's not what you said last night

Waw. Twice.
That, though, sounds familiar. :naughty:

How could you detest dontcloseyoureyes? Top poster IMO.

I do wonder what Aussie are missing more - the bowling of Lee or the combined fielding prowess of Symonds, Ponting, Clarke and Gilchrist. I didn't see more than a few minutes of this match before heading to work but I do wonder how good the players such as Hodge and Haddin are in the field?

All class by NZ this series. Can finally say we're a complete team.

No, it's more than that
Haha. On another forum, I have actually been accused of being in love with Shane Watson... more than just a few of times as well. It's clearly not true though.. cricketing admiration can often be mistaken for other things.

Haha, unbelievable stuff from McCullum and McMillan, and Gillespie's edges were invaluable. Had a feeling right from the outset that we were going to chase this down, but once we were 41/4 I thought we were stuffed. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Actually feel quite sorry for Hussey. He's about the only Australian player who doesn't **** me off greatly and it must be quite demoralizing to have nothing go your way when you're a stand-in captain.

The pitch was an absolute featherbed. In terms of providing a platform for an exciting game it was perfect, but in terms of creating an even contest between bat and ball it failed. Absolutely no movement off the pitch at all, and it barely turned as well. Didn't help though that so many frontline bowlers weren't playing.

Oh, one other thing - Ed said he went to the game right? So he's broken his losing streak?

Hodge has great hands - can certainly catch a cricket ball. Not the most athletic chaser or ground fielder, but his catching is second to none really.

Haddin's keeping was quite poor today IMO. It was good in the first two games though.
