**Official** Chappell-Hadlee Series

Sensational game, and another fantastic victory for NZ. The atmosphere at the ground seemed like a great spectacle for New Zealand cricket which seemed to be at a low after the Sri Lankan series. McCullum and McMillan were brilliant, some of their shots were simply breathtaking. And Mark Gillespie.....lost for words on his batsmanship. :p

Interesting to hear the Australians reply to this after NZ were short of Bond, Vettori, Oram and Mills - 4 definite starters in what would be classed as our best XI (if they were all fit or not being rested which doesn't seem to happen that often!).

On the side, this was NZ's 2nd largest ODI total ever behind the 397/5 in 44 overs vs Zimbabwe. I would discard that and class this as our highest ODI total ever considering the quality of the opposition. :)
didn't NZ score 370+ aganist us once ???????

New Zealand is certainly not on par with Australia at full strength - that much is undeniable. I was trying to give New Zealand as much credit as possible for their showing though, by stating the level of underdoggedness - I'm fairly certain I just made up that word  - attached to the matter.
Just 1 or 2 more performances like the last 3 against Aus would be all it took to claim parity imo

BTW, congrats to the ACB

Apparently a significant no. of players didnt want to make the trip and now all we've got out of it is the probable loss of Lee and Hayden

If players and coaches can get dropped for poor performance, I wonder if the same thing will happen to the administrators (yeah right, that will happen!)
i think NZ cricket administrators should get all the credit :)

Serious? The pitches have been way too flat for mine, especially given the size of the grounds.
Who in their right mind unless they are bitter could criticise the pitches after the last 2 incredible games of cricket 8-) Take the eye-patch off for a minute and appreciate these amazing last couple of games of cricket

8-) You need more than a handful of wins to claim to being the best team in the world. And that's the claim New Zealand would have to make to state equal terms with Australia.

Agreed, the excitement relating to cricket in this country has been fantastic over the last few days and criticism of the pitches is hardly warranted IMO.

Don't mean to a pedent, but it is Cricket Australia and has been that way for nearly 4 years.

I'm not bitter and I'm criticizing the pitches. Not the games per se, which were exciting, but the pitches. Those sorts of pitches ruin cricket for me in the long run, because they take the bowlers out of it for the most part. People are getting way too carried away with Sean right now.

Last 2 pitches have been great, first was horrible for an ODI - people attend these matches to see runs scored and it doesnt really matter if the purists disagree with such uneven contests between bat and ball because they make up such a small percentage of crowd coming thru gate

The excitement and closeness of the games made them truly great spectacles, but the pitches produced aren't ones I'd like to see regularly though, by any stretch of the imagination. Good for the odd series in the name of pitch variation and all that, but I don't think those pitches should really be the aim of groundsmen...
