There's no guarantee if you lost here you would be able to turn it around in the WC game against SL.

You just have to play everything on its merits.
i said it would have been nice not guaranteed

but this game is very very good since yuvraj and sehwag will be feeling a lot better and our first big test in WC will be aganist SL itself andthey will be more confident faceing them again

Good win, congrats to a lot of the players for coming back into form, let's hope they continue it in the WC.

Good win for India, but i would have rather see a clean sweep. Meh..
Anyway happy with a good performance from Yuvi and Ganguly in particular.
Ganguly rightly deserved the MOTS status

Yeah certainly, very happy that Yuvraj has come back in form before the WC.
definitely! Its almost everything u cud have asked 4 frm the match; sehwag and yuvraj in form and players like ganguly and uthappa remaining in form; my WC team:

Sehwag
Ganguly
Uthappa
Tendulkar
Yuvraj
Dravid
Dhoni
Agarkar
Bhajji
Zaheer
Munaf

P.s. Sehwag will not be dropped; so we just have to face it TBH!

Yeah fine, if you're going to have Sehwag though, why open him and have Uthappa, with minimal experience, coming in at 3. He should open, and have Viru at 6 or something.

Even though the bowlers have struggled this series i think it was a pretty good hit out. Looks like Malinga very much needs seamer friendly pitches to be effective, which is a worry, but the pitches should be better for him in the Windies maybe.

I hope Dilshan and Jayasuriya have showed enough with the ball and Fernando, Maharoof have showed so little that we play 7 batsmen. Silva and Arnold innings were good signs that we have depth in the batting, again that depth should mean we play 7 batsmen, so one of them gets a game.

I think our bowling attack will look and perform a lot better with Vaas and Murali back. We really lacked a go to man when things got tough. Still would rather have Bandara as the 4th bowler in a 7 to 4 line up, but i think Kulasekara might have the edge due to the fact he got smacked the least.

Maharoof-Vaas-Bandara-Murali-Malinga would give SL a good attack and lower-order strength, but Jayasuriya and Dilshan are probably good enough for fifth-bowler duties.

Maharoof would get nosebleeds at #7 though, IMO. Picking three #8s to bat from 7-9 has been tried at various times over the years and tends to fail more often than not. Dilshan and Jayasuirya are good ODI bowlers and I don't think Bandara offers significantly more with the ball than those guys to justify leaving out Arnold for him.

with 20 overs of powerplays, its pointless playing 2 frontline spinners. Jayawardena doesnt even try to bowl them during the PP. Also having malinga opening the bowling is such a waste, he has no control with the new ball, and he just loses overs at the end.

Does Silva have a shot at the #7 slot?

Does Silva have a shot at the #7 slot?
I think that might be to low for him.He might struggle to get in the side but after his hundred there's every chance.

Whatever it takes!!!
Great win for India.

Still slightly worried about our batsmen's weakness against the short rising ball around off stump at 140+ ks. First it was Uthappa, then Sehwag and now Karthik. I have seen even Sachin and DRavid struggle against that ball. I guess it is because once they see a flat track with bounce on the lower side, our batsmen just instinctively start getting on the front foot. And a lifter at just outside offstump at 140+ will probably dismiss most batsmen in the world (or at least have them in trouble), so I guess I am just worried abt trifles there.

Interesting to see how close Dilshan was when he dropped that Karthik catch. Karthick cut down on the ball, so it is not like he hit it in the air, but Dilshan had walked in so much that he was closer than even a normal gully. Perhaps that is why he dropped it, the ball just flew to him.

Sri Lanka are looking a good side too, if they can sort out their top 3. Atapattu has looked in good touch without carrying on and Sanga has been in good enough form to not be worried abt a couple of single digit scores. Mahela needs to get his act together. Top knock from Chamara Silva, was impressed with him when I saw his batting in the NZ tour and he continues to impress.

India have had a bit of a return to form from Sehwag and a DEFINITE return to form from Yuvraj. That only means good news. I guess it means that one of Uthappa/Karthik/Pathan will take the last spot in the XI. IF Pathan is in decent form (mainly with the ball), then I would prefer him, but if not then Robin. Unless the management dont want so many openers in the same side and plump for a middle order batter, in which case Karthik would come in. I would personally love to see Karthik keep in a game or two in the league stages, just to make sure he is ready, in case something happens to Dhoni. It is better to be as prepared as possible.
