What have ANY of the sub-continental sides done since the Champions Trophy to suggest they've now suddenly a better chance than most of the other sides that actually made the semis?

Form goes out of the window with these sides, In ODI's especially, if they get battered on Saturday it does not affect them, they will probably come back the next day and Win comprehensively.

As pakistan jus demonstarted in SA.....lost the first ODI by a 164 runs but then came back two dayz later and won by a 142 runs.

To to assume that these sides will not win the WC because they are not form sides is a little premeture.

Look back at 1992 WC.......Pakistan preperation for the WC was just as bad if not worse BUT in the end they ended up taking the trophy, as they say especially in Pakistans case, "when they backs are to the wall, that is the time when they are at their most dangerous"; Cornered Tigers

Then got crushed twice more for good measure.

Yes they did, but u gotta remember the side in the WC will be a stronger side with bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar and Umar Gul comin back in the fold......ALSO BOOM BOOM will b back!

BEWare!
You've got Asif a bit dodgy injury wise plus the drugs thing, Shoaib the same but injury is a lot more dodgy, Umar Gul is dodgy with injury and even if they're passed fit Shoaib and Umar Gul will have little form and they might be only at 80-90% or whatever.

LOL!

A 50 percent Akhtar single handedly won test match for Pakistan. IF Akhtar do plays and plays upto his 80-90 percent then its something more than what we expect from him.

As for aAsif being injured, he is fit enough to play all 5 OD matches against SA, why then would his injury be such a big thing in WC?

I would say you should worry more about Vaughan and other English player then talk about Pak team players fitness level.

I see, i guess losing 90 percent of matces before and after CT, yet winning three matches against Australia is all that counts for some, right?

Yea right, of course he was 50%, which match was this that he won single-handedly then?

Existing injuries tend to get worse when you keep bowling with them, didn't say it was a big injury doubt anyway, just there is a worry there.

As for the rest of the stuff later and in later posts I can't be bothered with that rubbish.

I am really starting to worry about the aussies now with all these players getting injured, the latest being Lee who is flying back home from new zealand to asses the seriousness of his ankle injury. If its a ligament tear then he would be out of the world cup which would be a big blow for us.

Before talking about akthar and asif playing at the world cup lets hope that they are able to clear the dope test.

.

Who isn't a worry?? Brett Lee has only 50 perecent of chances of making it to WC.Anderson has a fresh injury scare!!! Bond is going great guns but like Akhtar can break down any time, Clark isn't in WC squad but he too has a injury and if lee is out of WC, Clark might not be able to replace him.Vaughan remains one of the fittess captain of all time!

Thats pretty much i have been saying, the fitness level of players, in particular the pacers will change by the time the WC get started.Pacers that seems to be fit right now might not be able to play WC.

I guess South Africa may well and go into the WC has slight favourites due to Australia's slight injury woes and bad form.

After aussies i would say the sub-continent teams are the favourites, because the conditions are going for them and they certainly have the bowlers to exploit them too.

The conditions will vary, but not one sub-continental team managed to reach the semis in the CT in India so I would disagree somewhat.

I said virtually no chance. I wouldn't even say India have a fairly good chance of getting to the semis. Their team will be worse than England's because their best player (Tendulkar) is past his best. England bringing back Anderson and KP (second best bowler and best batsman) for their worst bowler and worst batsman is a big improvement already on a side that beat a near full strength Australia three times in a row.
Sachin averaged 40.60 with the bat in 2004, 44.86 with the bat in 2006 and is averaging 49.20 so far this year.

Yep, he may be past his best, but his best (96-99) was so freaking good, him being just half as good as he was then is good enough to be better than every England ODI batsman bar Pietersen (who is the only England ODI batsman that is better than Sachin atm).

Then of course there's Dravid, he's not too bad. That Dhoni isn't too bad either with his average of 46+.

It's the bowling and fielding that worries me for the Indian team at the WC.They just have to many slow movers in the outfield.Apart from Munaf and Zaheer there bowling attack isn' the best.
