Dalrymple averaged 13.88 @ 71.83 SR with the bat in the series just gone, that isn't really good enough. His bowling wasn't of much value either. Strauss is a very good slip fielder which makes up somewhat for his outfielding. I would sooner have Panesar in instead of Strauss than Dalrymple (leaves us with Nixon at 7 and Plunkett at 8 tho). Other option is to play Bopara if Panesar plays instead of Lewis or whoever. I don't see much point in Dalrymple if Panesar plays, but personally I'd stick to a seam attack unless pitch conditions suggest otherwise.

can't pick Loye, he's a liability in the field and turns 2s in to 1s whilst batting. I'd be wary of taking Vaughan aswell, we can't have someone breaking down every other game.

Panesar has to play imo, so i guess Pietersen in for Loye, Strauss to open unless Vaughan can really prove his fitness then Strauss drops out to reserve. Anderson in for Mahmood. Lewis/Plunkett a close call.

Vaughan + Strauss opening doesn't give enough impetus to the innings. Strauss in particular is too reactive as an OD player, especially an opener.

BARNES OUT
I'd imagine the side would be like this:

Joyce
Vaughan*
Bell
Pieterson
Collingwood
Flintoff
Nixon/Read/Whoever
Plunkett
Lewis
Anderson
Panesar

Though I guess that's a huge tail. One of the seam bowlers would probably go for someone like Dalrymple and combine for ten with Colly. Meh.

I wouldn't argue with that too much. Am I right in thinking we're allowed to bring in a reserve keeper if Nixon ends up hospitalised by a particularly touchy opponent or if his arthritis kicks in? My only quibbles are whether it's worth taking someone who's fit for one game out of four at the moment, and whether Lewis or Plunkett should play. Depends whether you prefer Plunkett's occasional brilliance but otherwise a liability to Lewis' generally somewhere in between.

After Plunkett's recent performances he has to play. You can't drop a guy that was a large part of England winning the Commonwealth Series - that would be just stupid.

Apart from this he'll always give you 10 overs whenever you want them bowled, he's a good lower order batsman and he's a good fielder.

I think this is the team Fletcher will probably end up selecting (except with the order slightly different). He doesn't seem to like Lewis and he usually picks the old guard over newer players.

Would pick Trescothick instead of Strauss if he was fit. Trescothick and KP are our best ODI batsmen by a mile, they both have to be in for us to have a chance of winning.

Lewis/Plunkett a close call.
If Plunkett and Lewis are both fit for the opening game and Lewis plays and Plunkett doesn't I'll eat my computer. This:

attitude sums-up the feeling at-large around those who count (ie Press and selectors).

WHERE IS BROAD?

Seriously pissed off at that.
Why?.What has Broad done to deserve to be ahead of Mahmood,Anderson,Plunkett and Lewis for a seamers berth.Allright he's not played a game but your not going to take someone to the WC who has not played a game in the CB series.Bopara is an exception and I was surprised he was included.

I can only assume that Bopara is cover in case Collingwood is injured.
Agreed about Broad, as long as Lewis & Anderson are 100% fit..

One thing is for sure if this english side play the way they did in the latter part of the CB series then there is good chance they can reach atleast the semi-final stages. They certainly do have the players to basically cover all the bases, though its their consistency that holds the key.
